Summary
Mando America Corporation (Mando) is recalling certain Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) modules, part number 58920-D3530, 58920-D9100, 58920-F6210, 58920-B1010, 58920-B1110, 58920-G9080, 58920-G9230, 58920-J5070, and 58920-J5170. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module could malfunction and short circuit.
Remedy
The vehicle manufacturers have developed and will perform the remedy procedure. Owners may contact Mando customer service at 1-334-364-3600.

CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS REGARDING HECU/ABS MODULE

October 2018—Present
Mando Corporation (Mando Korea) received a HECU/ABS module, from Hyundai
Motor Company (HMC), showing signs of partial burnt damage. Since then, Mando Korea has continued a joint investigation with HMC and Kia Motors Corporation (KMC) to identify a root cause of the issue. The inspection included analyzing warranty part returns and conducting failure recreation tests. To date, Mando Korea, HMC, and KMC have not yet determined the presence of a defect in the HECU/ABS modules.
July—December 2019
Hyundai Motor America (HMA) received a report involving a 2019 Hyundai Tucson that allegedly caught fire while driving. HMA inspected the vehicle and also recovered the ABS module for further investigation by HMC and Mando Korea. Mando Korea and HMC inspected all incident parts received, but an approximate failure mechanism or root cause could not be determined. (See Recall No. 20V-543).
August 2020
On August 27, 2020, Kia Motors America, Inc. (KMA) filed a 573 Defect Report identifying a defect in certain 2019 Stinger vehicles. (See Recall No. 20V-518). KMA filed amended 573 reports on November 18, 2020; December 30, 2020; and March 22, 2021.
September 2020
On September 4, 2020, HMA filed a 573 Defect Report identifying a defect in certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles. (See Recall No. 20V-543). HMA filed amended 573 reports on September 10, 2020, and December 30, 2020.
December 2020
HMC began a joint investigation with Mando Korea concerning the ABS modules in certain Genesis and G80 vehicles. (See Recall No. 21V-160).
March 2021
On March 4, 2021, KMA filed a 573 Defect Report identifying an issue of engine compartment fire in the HECU area in certain 2017-2021 Sportage and 2017-2019 Cadenza vehicles. (See Recall No. 21V-137). KMA filed an amended 573 report on March 5, 2021.
On March 10, 2021, HMA filed a 573 Defect Report identifying an issue of ABS malfunction in certain 20152016 Genesis and 2017-2020 G80 vehicles. (See Recall No. 21V-160).
On March 10, 2021, HMA filed a 573 Defect Report identifying an issue of ABS malfunction in certain 20192021 Genesis G70 vehicles. (See Recall No. 21V-161).
April 2021
NHTSA requested Mando Korea to submit a 573 Defect Report to identify the purchasers of the recalled HECU equipment. On April 30, 2021, although Mando Korea has not identified a defect in their HECU, Mando Korea filed a 573 Defect Report to NHTSA to identify vehicle manufacturers who have purchased the recalled HECU equipment.
