High Pressure Fuel Rail Assembly May Leak Fuel
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Summary
Shyft Group is recalling certain 2017-2022 Spartan RV Chassis K2 and K3 vehicles. The sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot bore holes, allowing the high pressure fuel rail assembly to leak.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the rail threads and fuel lines, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on June 23, 2021. Owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-543-4277. Shyft Group’s number for this recall is 21-11.

This notice applies to the vehicle identification number in the label below.
Dear Valued Customer,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
The Shyft Group, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 model year K2 and K3 model Spartan RV chassis equipped with L9 and X12 model engines supplied by Cummins Inc.
What is the Defect?
The fuel rail assembly on the engine may develop leaks, which may result in an undetected prolonged diesel fuel spray.
What is the Safety Risk?
A leak involving spraying/misting fuel in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of fire.
What is the Warning?
Although the leak may occur without warning, with the presence of a fuel leak, you may see or smell diesel fuel. In some cases, the check engine lamp may illuminate.
What is the Remedy?
Cummins has released field Safety Campaign #C2423 “L9/ISX12 Fuel Rail Safety Campaign for Selective North America On-Highway Applications” to correct this condition by inspecting the rail threads for damage and, if damage is found, replacing the rail and fuel lines. If no damage is found, new crush washers will be installed in the rail assembly using a special tool. This campaign is currently available at Cummins Distributors and authorized Warranty Dealers. The repair will be completed free of charge and most applications will require approximately 2.5 hours to complete although the service provider may need your vehicle longer depending on scheduling times.

Leased Vehicles:
The lessor must notify the lessee by first class mail within ten (10) days from receipt of their owner notification letter from the manufacturer; both for the initial notification and all subsequent notifications.
Reimbursement:
If you had this repair performed before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall. For more information contact Spartan RV Chassis at 1-800-543-4277.
