Re: Safety Recall Notice NHTSA Recall ID# 21V-334/Cummins
Recall # 21E-032
Dear Owner of a Rosenbauer
Fire Apparatus:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This is to inform you that your vehicle may have a defect that could increase the risk of fire due to a potential leak or mist of fuel near an ignition source, which could result in an unexpected injury or damage to your vehicle.
Federal law requires the Recall Remedy completed on this unit prior to customer delivery.
What is the issue?: Due to the safety risk of fire due to a potential fuel leak, Rosenbauer
America is recalling certain fire trucks of the following make-models for 2016-2021 chassis that have the recalled L9
and ISX12 diesel engine: Rosenbauer
Commanders, Avengers, Warriors as well as Commercial 348, 365, 108SD, 114SD, M2 112, M2 106, M2 114SD, T370, T400, T440, T800. The Cummins
engines were installed in the impacted trucks from January 2017 through May 2021.
How do I know if my truck has this type of equipment? Rosenbauer
has worked with Cummins
to reconcile the recalled engine serial number to the truck’s VIN. If you have received this letter, we believe the VIN listed above has the recalled engine. However, we request that you verify the engine serial number (ESN) and contact us immediately if the engine serial number listed here is incorrect. Please also check for any diesel fuel leaks and if you see any, contact us and your authorized Cummins
service provider so you can get it resolved immediately.
How do I resolve this important safety recall? Contact your local authorized Cummins
service provider or distributor to schedule the inspection of your recalled engine. You should plan on the initial inspection to take 1-3 hours. Even though Cummins
is expecting less than 1% of engines to be defective, please keep in mind that if the inspection proves that there is a defect, then your Cummins
service provider will need to request replacement parts which will put your truck out of service until new parts can be shipped and installed. We don’t expect this to happen very often but it is a variable to plan for. All inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge.
Once your truck has been inspected, we ask that you either email us the information found in the attached post card at [email protected] or mail it back to us with the prepaid postage.
This way we can keep track of the trucks that have been inspected for our reporting to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
You can find your local service provider by visiting https://www.cummins
.com/locations or calling 1800-286-6467 (1-800-CUMMINS
). If you are having a hard time finding your local Cummins
service provider, please reach out to us or your Rosenbauer
Dealer.
What if I already paid to have this repair completed: Contact Rosenbauer
and your Rosenbauer
Dealer with the details of the repair as well as a proof of service from Cummins
or your Cummins
service provider. Once we have received proof of completion, we will mark your truck as having been remedied.
What if I no longer own this truck: please contact Rosenbauer
to provide the new owner information. Rosenbauer
will then contact the new owner.
If you are the lessor of this vehicle: please forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within 10 days to comply with federal regulations or you can contact [email protected] for assistance.
If after having attempted to take advantage of this recall you believe you have not been able to have your fire apparatus remedied without charge and within a reasonable amount of time, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll-free vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800424-9153); or go to https://www.safercar.gov.
We apologize for any inconvenience this safety recall may cause, but your safety is our first concern.
Sincerely,
Rosenbauer

Recall # 21E-032): – The field campaign launch has been pushed out. – Cummins

Engine Recall. Here are some additional details: – Cummins
plans to fully launch the campaign June 24th or later. – Until the campaign is fully launched, your authorized Cummins
service provider will not see the campaign in their system. – The reason for the delay is because Cummins
is procuring enough parts to support the campaign when launched. – Once launched, the nearest authorized Cummins
service provider can perform the recall remedy and repair if a defect is found. – The authorized Cummins
service provider will need to procure a tool and crush washers from Cummins
distribution in order to perform the inspection, which should take .5 hours. – Cummins
is expecting <1% of defects. Should they find a defect, they are expecting that they will need to replace the fuel rail but more information to come. – Because Rosenbauer
needs to report the recall completion progress to NHTSA, I will need to know when each truck has been inspected and if it passed/failed. We will be using our SRS system for this. Once I receive a firm date from Cummins
on their launch, I will send official notification letters to our customers as well as you. I will detail out what information the Cummins
service providers require to schedule the inspection. For now, I know that these trucks will be impacted. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. If not, we’ll be in contact in a few weeks. Dealers, We have submitted our initial paperwork to NHTSA and Transport Canada regarding an upcoming recall initiated by Cummins
for a population of 697 trucks with certain L9
and ISX12 engines. The engine’s fuel rail assembly may develop leaks, which may result in an undetected prolonged diesel fuel spray. A leak involving spraying and/or misting fuel in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of fire. If you witness a leak, please contact us immediately. I have attached the recall notification sent to Rosenbauer
from Cummins
but you are welcome to look up a more detailed report on the NHTSA website: www.safercar.gov. Rosenbauer
will work with Cummins
who will perform the remedy which is inspection/reassembly and replace the fuel rail if defective. They are expecting <1% defect. This email is to provide an informal notification as we gather information before we submit a formal letter or email to you as well as the owners. Information that we are gathering are exactly which trucks are impacted as well as their current location (in WIP, at the dealer, at the customer) and how we will handle the repair (i.e. logistics). I anticipate sending official letters to the customers by the beginning of July (maybe sooner) and will let you know when we have solidified the list and plan of action. Feel free to reach out should you have any questions regarding recalls or technical service bulletins at [email protected]. Lisa Sampson Rosenbauer

Dealer: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Commanders, Avengers, Warriors as well as Commercial M2 106. The Cummins
engines were installed in the impacted trucks from January 2017 through May 2021. How do I know if my truck has this type o equipment: Rosenbauer
has worked with Cummins
to reconcile the recalled engine serial number to the truck’s VIN. We are still asking the customer to verify the engine serial number (ESN) and contact Rosenbauer
immediately if the engine serial number listed here is incorrect. Please also check every vehicle for any diesel fuel leaks and if you see any, contact us and your authorized Cummins
service provider so it can get resolved immediately. How is this safety recall resolved: We are telling customers they can contact their local authorized Cummins
service provider to schedule the inspection of the recalled engine. Each inspection can take 1-3 hours and even though Cummins
is expecting less than 1% of the engines to be defective, it is best to be prepared for the event of a defect being found as that repair time can put the truck out of service ntil new parts are shipped overnight and installed. We don’t expect this to happen very often but it is a variable. All inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge. What do we need from our dealers: we are asking the customer to email us or send in a prepaid postage postcard with the information of when and where they got their truck remedied. We will then enter SRS tickets in the system. If you have performed the remedy as an authorized Cummins
service provider, please submit an SRS ticket with the following information: date of remedy completion and engine serial number. If possible, indicate Recall # 21V-334 in the complaint area. What if the customer already paid to have this repair completed: the customer should contact Rosenbauer
and their Dealer with the details of the inspection as well as proof of service from the Cummins
service provider. Once we have reviewed these details, we will coordinate reimbursement to the customer as the service should have been provided free of charge. If you performed the repair, please complete an SRS ticket and upload an invoice. Recall 21V-334 / 21E-032 [email protected] What if the customer listed no longer owns this truck: the customer should contact Rosenbauer
to provide the new owner information. Rosenbauer
will then contact the new owner. We apologize for any inconvenience this safety recall may cause, but safety is our first concern. Lisa Sampson will be your main point of contact regarding this recall.
