NHTSA Recall # 21V-460
TC Recall # 2021-417
KZ Recall # KZ-2021-04
Step 1: Remove fender skirt and skirt metal from axle area.
Step 2: Support the unit with jack stands with all the weight removed from the suspension.
Step 3: Remove the tires and axles.
Step 4: On the frame, mark the center locations for the new hangers using the current hangers as a reference. Mark 7.5” rearward of the current hanger centers. Spacing between these center marks should be 29.5”.
Step 5: Using the center marks to locate the new hangers, clamp all hangers in place on the frame. Verify that the hanger spacing is 29.5” center to center. Use the holes in the hangers to match drill the frame rails with a 3/8” drill bit and drill bit stop.
Take care to not penetrate holding tanks with drill bit.
Step 6: Install 3/8” -16, grade 5 Fasteners four places per hanger. Torque all hard ware to 23 ft lbs.
Paint bolts with black paint.
Step 7: Using a cut off wheel, remove the existing axle hangers by cutting the welds on the vertical web and bottom flange of the frame rail. Be careful not to gouge or damage the main frame rail when removing the hangers. Touch up paint as needed in the original hanger locations.
Step 8: Verify that brake wire is long enough, about 16”-24” wire will be needed for new axle location. Extend brake wire if necessary.
Step 9: Reinstall axles and tires following ANSI/RVIA TSIC-1 Standards.
Step 10: Check for tire clearance to the outrigger located forward of the center hanger. If there isn’t adequate clearance for suspension travel, The outrigger will need to be moved rearward. If the out rigger needs to be moved, it can be relocated up to 3.75” rear ward before contacting the center hanger. The outrigger hucks can either have the head drilled off or can be removed with a cutoff wheel. Once relocated, the outrigger should be fastened with 3/8”-16 grade 5 hardware and torqued to 23 ft. lbs.
Step 11: Test fit fender skirt to new axle location. Mark outer profile with grease pencil on unit. Verify that previous holes will be covered by fender skirt. Holes that will not be covered will need body repair and covered by the amber reflector.
Step 12: Extend belt rail if necessary, replace skirt metal and re-seal.
Step 13: Reinstall fender skirt.
Step 14: Test brakes for function.
