STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Locate 2 connectors that connect the harness to the pump shift control solenoid. These are
typically located towards the middle of the truck on the drivers side frame rail. Road Solenoid
connector will have orange wire labeled ERV738 & black wire labeled ERV510D. Pump solenoid
connector will have blue wire labeled ERV739 & black wire labeled ERV510E.
2. Identify type of connector. Deutsch or Weather-Pack. See Figure 2.1
Figure 2.1
3. If connection is made with Deutsch connector no further action is needed. If connection is
made with Weather-Pack connector move on to step 4.
4. Disconnect both Weather-Pack connectors that connect the harness to the pump shift control
solenoid.
5. Inspect the harness side connector (Female connector assembly) terminals to verify they are
a female (sleeve) terminal, not a male (pin) terminal. See figure 3.1

7. If male (pin) terminals were installed in the female connector assembly they will need to be
replaced with the correct female (sleeve) terminals.
8. Open hinged TPA on female connector assembly. (See cross sectional view in figure 3.1 above
for hinged TPA location)
9. Insert terminal removal tool into front of female connector assembly & remove incorrect
male (pin) terminal. See Figure 4.1

10. Cut wire just below removed terminal & discard male terminal.
11. Strip wire insulation leaving approx. ¼” of exposed wire.
12. Insert 12010293 cable seal on to wire before the crimping of 12124580 female terminal
sleeve onto wire. Inspect to make sure terminal is straight and not bent. Ensure the conductors
are crimped to the conductor grip of the terminal and the cable seal is crimped along with the
wire insulation grip. (See figure 4.2 showing proper crimp around seal & insulation)

What is the defect?
On the affected vehicles, the harness manufacturer installed the incorrect terminals within one side of
the connectors, resulting in a male to male terminal connection where it should have been a male to
female terminal connection. When the incorrect terminals are installed, this may cause a poor
connection and the vehicle to not shift into pump mode when requested.
A poor connection at the terminals may cause the vehicle to not shift into pump mode when
requested. This increases the risk of personal injury and equipment damage. The issue could occur
without warning.
Corrective Action:
Spartan dealers will remove and replace the terminals at no charge.
Labor Time:
Removal of the affected pump shift harness terminals and installation of the new terminals may take up
to 1 hour.
