Summary
Summit Bodyworks is recalling one 2017 Freightliner
M2-106 vehicle. The all-in-one rear LED lights may be too bright, exceeding the maximum light output allowed which may adversely affect the vision of drivers. As such, this vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Summit Bodyworks will notify the owner, and provide instructions on how to obtain a filter kit from the light manufacturer, free of charge. The owner notification letter were mailed on September 15, 2021. Owners may contact Summit Bodyworks’ customer service at 1-303-348-2681.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Why is a recall being conducted?
Summit Bodyworks has decided that identified replacement equipment, in the case of notification sent by a replacement equipment manufacturer fails to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108; Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.
Summit bodyworks has determined that the installed Code 3 7×9 combination LED stop, tail, turn, reverse lights, (part number 79STTRBZ) exceed the maximum permissible candela levels specified in FMVSS 571.108 at certain test points. The increased photometric intensity does not comply with the requirements of FMVSS 571.108 and may adversely affect the vision of following drivers, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash without warning.
What are we doing about the problem?
In order to remedy this defect you are being instructed via this letter to contact the supplier, Code 3 (208-395-8023), and obtain a filter kit free of charge. The filter kit part number is: CZ0199. Installation of the filter kit will ensure that the lamps perform within the permissible photometric intensity ranges. All of the subject lamps are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty/goodwill program. The filter kit is currently available from the supplier. Other than the filter kit, no additional modifications need to be made to bring these lights into compliance with FMVSS 571.108. The owner of the vehicle can install the filter kit or can call Summit Bodyworks and we will arrange for a technician to install the filter kit for them. The estimated time for the remedy is 0.5 hours.
