Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Salem, Wildwood and 2020-2021 Stealth EVO travel trailers. The fresh water tank may not be properly secured to the vehicle’s frame.
Remedy
Dealers will properly secure the holding tank, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 23, 2021. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-503-831-5410. Forest River’s number for this recall is 22-1400.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This notice is also sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River – Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2019 – 2021 Salem, 2019 – 2021 Wildwood Travel Trailers and 2020 – 2021 Stealth EVO Travel Trailer recreational vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The fresh water tank may not be secured properly.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
If the tank comes loose from the frame this could cause property damage, personal injury or result in a crash.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is .50 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.

If you have already paid for a repair that is within the scope of this defect under recall, you still need to have this recall inspected and/or performed to ensure the correct parts and procedures were utilized.

Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.
INSPECTION
STEP 1: LOCATE THE FRESH TANK DRAIN. IT WILL LOOK LIKE THIS. THE DRAIN LOCATION IDENTIFIES THE LOCATION OF THE FRESH TANK.
STEP 2: IN SOME MODELS YOU WILL HAVE ONE FOREST INSTALLED TANK BAR ON ONE SIDE OF THE TANK AND A CHASSIS TANK MOUNT ON THE OTHER. SOME MODELS WILL BE TWO TANK BARS, ONE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE TANK. IN EITHER CASE, A TANK BAR SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH TWO SELF-TAPPING SCREWS COMING THROUGH THE I BEAMS ON BOTH ENDS OF THE TANK BAR. IF INSTALLED CORRECTLY, IT WILL LOOK LIKE THIS ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE I BEAMS. CHECK THE I BEAMS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE UNIT AND VERIFY BOTH ENDS OF EACH TANK BAR WERE SECURED WITH TWO SELF-TAPPING SCREWS AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE. FOR THE MODELS WITH TWO INSTALLED TANK BARS (ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE FRESH TANK) YOU WILL NEED TO VERIFY BOTH BARS ARE INSTALLED USING TWO SELF-TAPPING SCREWS ON EITHER END. IF YOU FIND ONE OR MORE OF THE SELF-TAPPING SCREWS ARE NOT INSTALLED, THE UNIT WILL NEED TO HAVE A REPAIR COMPLETED TO AVOID POSSIBLE FAILURE OF THE SECUREMENT.
STEP 3: IF ALL SELF-TAPPING SCREWS ARE PRESENT, VERIFY THE TANK IS EMPTY AND THEN SHAKE THE TANK BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE TANK BARS. IF THE TANK MOVES 3/8THS OF AN INCH OR MORE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE TANK BARS, THE TANK BARS SHOULD BE RE-SECURED TIGHTER TO THE TANK TO AVOID EXCESS PLAY AND POSSIBLE FAILURE OF THE SECUREMENT.
STEP 4: IF ALL SELF-TAPPING SCREWS ARE FOUND TO BE PRESENT AND THE TANK DOES NOT HAVE EXCESS PLAY WHEN SHAKEN, THE INSPECTION IS COMPLETE AND NO REPAIR IS NEEDED.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FOR MISSING SELF-TAPPING SCREWS AND OR EXCESS MOVEMENT
NOTE: FOR MODELS WITH UNDER BELLY MATERIAL INSTALLED, CUTTING ACCESS HOLES OR PARTIAL
REMOVAL OF THE UNDERBELLY WILL BE REQUIRED FOR A PROPER REPAIR TO THE UNIT. IF ACCESS IS GAINED VIA ACCESS HOLES, THE BELLY MUST BE PROPERLY REPAIRED WITH A PERMANENT, VISUALLY ACCEPTABLE REPAIR.
STEP 1: IF THE TANK BAR OR BARS ARE MISSING SELF TAPPING SCREWS WITH NO EXCESS MOVEMENT OF THE TANK: SELF-TAPPING SCREWS NEED TO BE ADDED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE I BEAM, TO THE EXISTING UNUSED HOLES IN THE TANK BAR FLANGES. ONCE ADDED, THE SECUREMENT SHOULD APPEAR SIMILAR TO THE PICTURES.
STEP 2: IF THE TANK HAS EXCESS MOVEMENT: REMOVE THE EXISTING SELF-TAPPERS FROM ONE TANK BAR SO THAT TANK BAR IS FREE TO BE REPOSITIONED TIGHTER TO THE TANK. PUSH THE TANK ITSELF, TIGHT INTO THE TANK BAR OR CHASSIS MOUNT THAT IS STILL SECURE. THEN SLIDE THE LOOSE TANK BAR UP TIGHT TO THE TANK. RE-SECURE THE TANK BAR MAKING SURE ALL REQUIRED SELF-TAPPING SCREWS ARE INSTALLED ON BOTH ENDS.

The Recall shall be considered the utmost priority to remedy the 2019 – 2021 Salem, 2019 – 2021 Wildwood Travel Trailers and 2020 – 2021 Stealth EVO Travel Trailer in question. The retail consumer shall not be charged any amount of monies for remedy to their 2019 – 2021 Salem, 2019 – 2021 Wildwood Travel Trailers and 2020 – 2021 Stealth EVO Travel Trailer listed under this Recall.
If your dealership has already performed the remedy to 2019 – 2021 Salem, 2019 – 2021 Wildwood Travel Trailers and 2020 – 2021 Stealth EVO Travel Trailer, your dealership is entitled to the reimbursement as stated above by filing a claim using the indicated repair code(s). If the remedy needs to be performed on an out of warranty 2019 – 2021 Salem, 2019 – 2021 Wildwood Travel Trailers and 2020 – 2021 Stealth EVO Travel Trailer in which the VIN falls under as stated in the identified VIN listing, your dealership is entitled to the reimbursement as stated above by filing a claim using the indicated repair code(s).
