Summary
KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Husqvarna Motorcycle 701 Vitpilen and 2019-2020 701 Svartpilen motorcycles. The gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm may be positioned incorrectly, possibly resulting in a loose rear axle nut, causing the license plate holder to contact the rear wheel.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and realign the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm, and inspect the tightness of the rear wheel axle collar, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 1, 2021. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. KTM’s number for this recall is HTB2106.

INITIAL INFORMATION:
Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists with the motorcycle models and years listed above in which the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm may be positioned incorrectly. This can lead to twisting of the license plate holder and subsequently to the loosening of the rear wheel axle collar nut. For this reason, the correct mounting position of the license plate holder and torque of the rear axle collar nut must be checked.
Incorrect alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm could result in the possibility of the rear wheel axle nut becoming loose which may cause the license plate bracket to fall down and contact the rear wheel. This could cause injury to the rider or others and/or damage to property.
To remedy this defect, it is necessary to check the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate carrier and swingarm and correct the alignment if necessary. The torque of the rear wheel axle collar nut must also be checked.
Husqvarna Motorcycles is notifying all registered owners of affected VITPILEN 701 and SVARTPILEN 701 motorcycles by mail. A copy of the customer letter is included in this bulletin. The customer should take the letter along with the affected motorcycle to an authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles Dealer to have the mounting position of the license plate holder and torque of the rear wheel axle collar nut checked.
Dealers must perform the check of the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm on all affected motorcycles in their inventory prior to any customer delivery. Any affected VITPILEN 701 and SVARTPILEN 701 motorcycles received directly from Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, Inc. requires the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm and rear wheel axle collar nut torque to be checked prior to customer delivery. Affected units acquired through dealer transfers or trades must be checked and remedied in Husqvarna Dealer.net to ensure and document that the repair has been performed.
Motorcycles that are affected must not be sold or operated until the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate holder and swingarm and rear wheel axle collar nut torque has been checked as described in this bulletin. It is a violation of Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, Inc. policy for an authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles Dealer to deliver any affected units to customers before the procedure in this bulletin has been performed. Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, Inc. must report to the federal government on a regular basis how many units have been inspected and repaired during this campaign. Be sure to submit your warranty request for reimbursement on every unit repaired to ensure accurate compliance numbers.
PROCEDURE FOR REPAIR:
1. Visually check the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate carrier (B) and swingarm (C). (Fig. 1-3) to verify that they are aligned with each other.
2. If the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate carrier (B) and swingarm (C) is correct as shown in Fig. 2 then retighten rear wheel axle collar nut to 90 Nm to complete the inspection.
3. If the alignment of the gear teeth on the license plate carrier (B) and swingarm (C) is incorrect as shown in Fig. 3 then loosen the components and align the gear teeth on the license plate carrier (B) and swingarm (C) correctly.
4. Retighten the rear wheel axle collar nut to 90 Nm to complete the repair.

Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists with the motorcycle models and years listed above. On affected motorcycles there is a possibility that the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the front brake caliper were mounted incorrectly and must be checked for proper mounting. If the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the front brake caliper are mounted incorrectly there is a possibility the clips can unfasten and fall out and get lost while riding. This can result in the brake pad securing pin and brake pad holding bracket being lost which could reduce front braking performance and increase the risk of a crash, injury and/or consequential property damage. To remedy this defect, it is necessary to have the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the front brake caliper inspected for correct assembly by an authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer before it is operated. If the clips are not mounted correctly, the dealer will mount the clips in the correct direction. It is mandatory that you discontinue riding your motorcycle until the defect has been repaired by an authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer. If you are unable to transport your motorcycle to your nearest Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer, please contact Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, Inc. Customer Relations at (888) 985-6090 to make arrangements for the transportation and repair of your motorcycle. The transportation and repair will be conducted with no cost to you. Please contact your authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles Dealer (log onto www.husqvarna-motorcycles.com for a complete dealer listing) as soon as possible to arrange having the brake pad retaining “R” clips on the front brake caliper inspected. It is suggested that you call your local authorized Husqvarna Motorcycles Dealer to make an appointment to have the recall repair performed. The procedure will take approximately 10 minutes. However, it may be necessary to leave your motorcycle with the dealer for a longer period of time depending on their work schedule.
