Without intermediate side marker lights, the motorhome would have decreased visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. (Gulf Stream) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Gulf Stream Conquest and B Touring Cruiser motorhomes, models 6314, 6316, 6317, 6320, 63111, 5291 and 5316. These vehicles do not have intermediate side marker lights and have front and rear side marker lights that are spaced more than thirty feet apart. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

 

Remedy

Gulf Stream will notify owners, and dealers will install intermediate side marker lights, free of charge. The recall began on May 18, 2018. Owners may contact Gulf Stream customer service at 1-800-289-8787. Gulf Stream’s number for this recall is 04172018.

Dear Owner,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic & Motor Vehicle Safety Act.  Please take notice that Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. is issuing a voluntary recall under the provisions of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. has decided that a defect exists in 2016-2018 model year Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. motor homes (BT Cruiser, models 5291 and 5316 and Conquest models 6314, 6316, 6317, 6320, and 63111. This defect relates to a non compliance of the FMVSS safety Standard 108 “Lamps.”  The intermittent side marker lamps may not have been installed on the models which exceed (30’) thirty feet maximum distance requirement between the front and rear side marker lamps.

Failure to provide adequate illumination and enhancing the conspicuity of the motor homes on public roads so that their presence is perceived and understood in both daylight and in darkness or other conditions of reduced visibility may lead to unsafe identity of the motor vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

The installation of the intermediate side marker lamps can be performed by your selling dealer. The approximate time required for completing this installation is approximately .75 hour by an experienced technician.  However, due to service scheduling requirements, the repair facility may need your vehicle for a longer period of time.  The cost will be paid directly to the facility that does the correction by Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. or reimbursed to the customer as needed.

The required materials to complete this installation can be sent directly to you or to a repair facility of your choosing.  You will need to call Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. at 1-800-482-6456 and ask for extension #5208.  Provide the Gulf Stream Coach Service representative with either the Gulf Stream Coach unit serial number of the last six digits of the chassis VIN, along with the address of where you want the wiring harness and intermediate lamps shipped to. If you wish, you may have your repair facility contact Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. with the unit information and Recall number to facilitate shipment of the required materials and to obtain pre-authorization to complete the repair.  If you prefer, you may e-mail your information to:  [email protected].

If you have changed your address or sold the vehicle please fill out the enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us so we can update our records.  If you have sold the vehicle, the information you provide on the postcard will be used to notify the new owner about this safety compliance recall. If you have sold the vehicle and do not know the VIN number, please provide the vehicle serial number or your name so that we can properly identify the vehicle.

Federal Regulations require any lessor receiving this letter to forward it to the lessee within 10 days.

If you paid to remedy the issue addressed in this notice, you may be eligible for a refund.  Please provide the paid invoice to an authorized dealer or directly to Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. at P.O. Box 1005, Nappanee, IN 46550, attn:  Motorized Service.

If you have trouble getting your vehicle repaired promptly and without charge, please contact the service manager at the service facility.  If you still have concerns please call Gulf Stream Coach at 1-800-4826456 and ask for extension #5208 to speak to a Motor Home Service Representative regarding this notice.
