PROBLEM
1- Handlebar may have a play in rotation due to unequal clamping surface.
2- Brake oil reservoir diaphragm may be incorrectly installed.
SOLUTION
At PDI
1- Install a flat washer on handlebar stem screw.
2- Make sure brake oil reservoir diaphragm is correctly installed.
– If correctly installed, no further action is required.
– If not correctly installed, place the diaphragm in correct position.
Registered Vehicles
1- Install a flat washer with a new handlebar stem screw.
2- Replace brake oil reservoir diaphragm with a new one.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
1- Handlebar Stem Screw
At PDI
Install the flat washer with the handlebar stem screw when installing the handlebar. Refer to PDI bulletin.
Registered Vehicles
1. Lock the steering column. Refer to LOCKING THE STEERING COLUMN in the appropriate shop manual.
2. Move handlebar forwards.
3. Remove the rubber plug.
4. Remove and discard the handlebar stem screw.
5. Install the new screw with the flat washer.
6. Apply threadlocker on the threads.
NOTE: Threadlocker is considered as shop supply and is not claimable.
SERVICE PRODUCT
LOCTITE 243 (BLUE) (P/N 293 800 060)
7. Center the handlebar (rotation movement).
NOTE: Make sure the handlebar is clamped when centering it.
8. Tighten the screw to specification
TIGHTENING TORQUE
Handlebar stem screw
26.5N•m ± 1.5 N•m
(19.5 lbf•ft ± 1.1 lbf•ft)
9. Reinstall the rubber plug.
10. Position handlebar and lock it in place.
WARNING
Be sure that the locking lever is well positioned.
It should be equal with the handlebar retaining clamps.
11. Unlock the steering column.
2- Brake Oil Reservoir Diaphragm
1. Remove the RH rocker panel. Refer to BODY subsection.
2. Slide the RH footpeg fully rearward.
3. Clean the reservoir cap and the top of the reservoir.
4. Remove the reservoir cap and the friction washer.
NOTICE Brake fluid
can damage painted surfaces or plastic parts. Wipe up any spills.
At PDI
If the diaphragm is correctly aligned with the center wall no further action is required.
If the diaphragm is incorrectly aligned with the center wall:
5. Place the diaphragm in correct position and reinstall removed parts.
Registered Vehicles
6. Remove and discard the diaphragm.
7. Correctly install a new diaphragm.
8. Reinstall removed parts.
