Subject: FCCC Throttle Pedal
Models Affected: Specific model year 2022 Freightliner
Custom Chassis B2 school bus chassis (Thomas Built Buses C2 Saf-TLiner), manufactured January 5, 2021, through September 22, 2021, equipped with a specific accelerator pedal.
General Information
Daimler Trucks
North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary, Freightliner
Custom Chassis Corporation has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists on the vehicles mentioned above.
On certain school buses equipped with a specific accelerator pedal, the accelerator pedal could be misaligned, allowing it to rub against the floor and potentially stick in an off-idle position without the driverโs knowledge. This could cause an unexpected loss of control of the vehicle speed, increasing the risk of a crash.
The accelerator pedal assembly will be inspected and replaced if necessary. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Trucks
North America authorized service facilities.
There are approximately 1,262 vehicles involved in this campaign.
Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle. A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or delivery of a vehicle.
Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification.

Chronology :
In September of 2021, DTNA received a complaint from a dealer of the throttle pedal sticking to the floor.
DTNA immediately opened an investigation into the issue. From late September thru mid-October, DTNA conducted inspections on similarly configured buses at Thomas Built Bus and at Freightliner
Custom Chassis.
In mid-October, an engineering design evaluation was conducted. In late October, suspect parts were sent to the supplier for testing. In early November, DTNA began its own testing of parts in parallel with the supplier. In mid-November, additional warranty analysis reports were reviewed as well as any customer complaint tickets.
On Dec. 1, 2021, DTNA with an abundance of caution, decided to conduct a voluntary recall campaign on certain Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 model school buses with the potential for the accelerator pedal to stick. There are no reported injuries or deaths related to this issue.
The initial report contained three additional VINs, alleging to have pedal contact with the floor matting. In mid October, a warranty report revealed a single claim filed in late Sept. 2021 for the pedal contacting the floor. No deaths or injuries have been reported for this issue.

Failure to repair a vehicle within a reasonable time can result in either the obligation to (a) replace the vehicle with an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle, without charge, or (b) refund the purchase price in full, less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. The Act further prohibits dealers from selling a vehicle unless all outstanding recalls are performed. Any lessor is required to send a copy of the recall notification to the lessee within 10 days. Any subsequent stage manufacturer is required to forward this notice to its distributors and retail outlets within five working days. Daimler Trucks

For the Notice to Canadian Customers: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. Daimler Trucks
North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary, Freightliner
Custom Chassis Corporation, has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists on specific model year 2022 Freightliner
Custom Chassis B2 school bus chassis (Thomas Built Buses C2 Saf-T-Liner), manufactured January 5, 2021, through September 22, 2021, and equipped with a certain accelerator pedal.
Please contact an authorized Daimler Trucks
North America dealer to arrange to have the Recall performed and to ensure that parts are available at the dealership. The Recall will take approximately one to two hours and will be performed at no charge to you. To locate an authorized dealer, search online at Daimler-TrucksNorthAmerica.com/contact-us/. Scroll down to โLocate a Dealer,โ and select the appropriate brand. You may also confirm your vehicleโs involvement in this recall at this URL: https:// dtna-dlrinfo.prd.freightliner

Pending Thomas Built Bus Recall Campaign FL913 Communication Type: Campaigns Date: 12/23/21 The Dealer Network is informed that a RECALL NOTIFICATION has been sent to NHTSA and TRANSPORT CANADA notifying them of an approved DTNA vehicle Recall: Campaign: FL913 TBB Throttle Pedal Sticking NHTSA: 21V945 TC: 2021-738 Vehicle Information: Model Yr. Start: 2022 Model Yr. End: 2022 Make: Thomas Built Buses Model: Saf-T-Liner C2 School Bus Production Dates: Begin: 01/05/2021 End: 09/22/2021 Descriptive Information: On C2 buses equipped with a certain accelerator pedal, the accelerator pedal could be misaligned, allowing it to rub against the floor and potentially stick in an off-idle position without the driverโs knowledge. Describe the defect or noncompliance: On affected chassis, the accelerator pedal may be contacting the floor mat potentially wearing a hole into the mat. In a rare, extreme case, the pedal could catch on the edge of the hole, possibly not allowing the pedal to return to idle. Describe the safety risk: An accelerator pedal stuck in an off idle position, may cause an unexpected loss of control of the vehicle speed, increasing the risk of a crash. Required Action: Until this Recall is released the Dealer Network and Vehicle Operators should, during service events and pre-trip or post trip inspection, visually detect wear marks or a hole being worn into the floor mat directly under the accelerator pedal. If the defect is found the Dealer is to contact their TBB service contact for next steps. Thank you, DTNA Campaign
