Install and secure a separate bare ground wire of sufficient length at the green ground screw (Blue Arrow) in the metal junction box (Fig 2). 5. Connect all ground wires together with green wire nut. Ensure the bare ground wire attached to the box passes through the hole in the top of the green wire nut (Fig 3). 6. Connect the bare ground wire coming through the top of the wire nut to the green ground screw (Green Arrow) on the GFCI receptacle (Fig 4). 7. Insert wires back into the metal junction box. 8. Secure GFCI receptacle and outlet face plate to junction box. 9. Turn power back on and validate function of the GFCI receptacle. 10. Repair is complete. Certain metallic electrical boxes may not be grounded as required by NFPA 70 Article 551.55(C)(2). The metallic box is being used as a substitute for a non-metallic box due to a component supplier shortage. Grounding requirements are not applicable on a non-metallic box. All units affected on premises were placed on hold and repaired with the recall remedy. In December 2021 this incident was discussed at WIRC and elevated to CPAC. On January 5, 2022 this incident was discussed at CPAC and elevated to SSC. One January 27, 2022 SSC discussed this incident and voted to proceed with a recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Add a bare copper grounding conductor to the metallic electrical box with either a listed green ground screw or grounding clip. Repairs made prior to the recall will be reimbursed in accordance with our Recall Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The metallic electrical box would be properly grounded with either a listed green ground screw or grounding clip. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : In December 2021 units that were on site and affected by this recall were properly grounded.
