Thor Motor Coach (TMC) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2022 Ace, Freedom Traveler, Hurricane, and Windsport motorhomes. As a result, TMC is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us. It has been discovered that on certain model year 2022 Ace, Freedom Traveler, Hurricane, and Windsport motorhomes, the rear ladders may have been installed on the incorrect side of the motorhome. If a person were to use the ladder while incorrectly installed, it would have the potential to break off motorhome. This could lead to property damage and/or personal injury. TMC has contacted your selling dealer and has instructed them on how to inspect the motorhome for proper location of the rear ladder and reinforce in its current location or relocate as needed based on floorplan. This will be done at no cost to you the owner. The remedy should take approximately up to thirty (30) minutes to perform. At your earliest convenience, please contact your dealer and schedule an appointment to have this remedy completed. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain models of the below listed motorhomes. It has been discovered that on certain model year 2022 Ace, Freedom Traveler, Hurricane, and Windsport motorhomes, the rear ladders may have been installed on the incorrect side of the motorhome. If a person were to use the ladder while incorrectly installed, it would have the potential to break off motorhome. This could lead to property damage and/or personal injury. The required action is inspect the motorhome for proper location of the rear ladder and reinforce in its current location or relocate as needed based on floorplan. This will be done at no cost to the owner. The remedy should take approximately up to thirty (30) minutes to perform. Dealers that have stock units impacted by this recall can access the full list of affected VINs sold to their dealership by accessing the “Service Campaign” portion of the TMC Advantage Web Portal. If any unit on this list has been retail sold you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed. Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list. As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale. Description of the Cause : Ladders were incorrectly installed during production and potentially not reinforced to the backers on the rear caps. An inspection was performed on all units still at Thor Motor Coach to determine if there were additional units with a similar issue. 1/20/2022 Inspection on all units still at TMC began to determine if there is an issue with additional units. 2/1/2022 Inspections on units still at TMC were completed and determined that there were units in the field that could potentially be affected. It was determined after further investigation that the installation issue is narrowed down to a specific timeframe of employment at the affected plant. 2/4/2022 TMC’s Safety Committee met and determined a recall would be necessary. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-076 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : TMC will instruct dealers on how to inspect the motorhome for proper location of the rear ladder and reinforce in its current location or relocate as needed based on floorplan. Reimbursement will be provided through the normal warranty claim process. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The ladder will be installed correctly on the rear of the motorhome. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The issue was found on January 19, 2022 in production and corrected at that time.
