TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 22-001
V‐MUX Hercules Hi Content Node HC1.5
May 6, 2022
Chronology :
Refer to NHTSA Recall 22E-037 below for Weldon’s chronology.
On April 29, 2022, Weldon was contacted by an OEM that described an issue with the CAN connection when installing the Node. Weldon was able to isolate the issue to the inclusion of the additional termination resistor on the circuit board. Weldon stopped the shipment of additional units. On May 2, 2022, Weldon reviewed the technical details affecting the Node to confirm the issue, considered whether the same issue impacts any similar products and decided to conduct a safety recall. On May 3, 2022, Weldon determined a recent shipment of a variation of the Node sold under a private label and to a single customer was also impacted. Weldon confirmed with the customer these units had never been installed in a vehicle and remained in the customer’s inventory. Weldon secured all of the affected products from the customer’s inventory and on May 4, 2022 reworked those units to remove the additional resistor.
On May 16, 2022, Spartan Fire
received communication from Weldon about recall 22E-037 for their V-mux Hercules HC Node 1.5. On May XX, 2022, it was agreed that Spartan Fire
should file a Part 573
May 16, 2022 – Escalated the issue to REV Group Management.
May 20, 2022 – REV’s senior leadership approved a voluntary recall for this issue.

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 22-001 V‐MUX Hercules Hi Content Node HC1.5 22-001 Customer Care PH. 800.228.1161 May 6, 2022 IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL INFORMATION NHTSA RECALL 22 E 037 This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Weldon, a division of Akron Brass Company , has decided a safety related defect may exist with some Hercules HC 1.5 I/O Nodes, Weldon Part Number 6060‐1000‐00 produced between January 21, 2022 and April 29, 2022. In the affected products, a termination resistor was installed on the CAN ports. In this configuration and when combined with external resistors located in a harness or with multiple nodes that do not have external resistors, CAN communication may become compromised which can impact any of the electrical loads that are connected to the CAN, including vehicle lighting, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. Since V‐MUX systems are configured to match user needs, some installations may not present an issue at initial acceptance test, but nevertheless should be remedied. You are receiving this notice because Weldon records indicate you have received shipments of affected units. Please see attached list. Weldon will remedy the units on the attached list free of charge by replacing them with Hercules HC 1.6 that has the same functionality as the Hercules 1.5, but does not include the internal terminator resistor. The affected units must be returned to Weldon under RMA to be converted to the HC 1.6. Once converted, they will go thru production test before being returned. Nodes will require OEM programming which can be done by USB thumb drive. Warranty labor of 0.5 hour per node at standard rates will be reimbursed to remove and replace a Hercules HC Node installed in a customer’s vehicle. Affected Part Hercules HC 1.5 Part Number 6060‐1000‐00 Replacement Part Hercules HC 1.6 Part Number 6060‐1010‐00 Please contact Barbara Gallick [email protected] or your local Weldon representative to obtain an RMA. An RMA is required for tracking purposes. Do not send units back to Weldon without an RMA number. Please note that it is a violation of Federal Law to deliver a new motor vehicle or any item of motor vehicle equipment which is subject to a recall until the remedy has been performed. If you believe there is a failure to remedy this defect without charge to the end user/owner of the vehicle and within a reasonable period of time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, NHTSA, 1200 New Jersey Ave, SE, Washington, DC 20590, or call the Vehicle Safety Hotline 1‐888‐327‐4336 (TTY: 1‐800‐424‐9153) or go to http://www.safercar.gov. Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter and continued support of Weldon.

July 15, 2022 IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL: 22V-372 V-MUX Hercules HC Node 1.5 This notice applies to your vehicle VIN: X UNIT: 1xxxxx This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. E-ONE
has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain models of the following emergency vehicles manufactured March 29, 2022 to May 10, 2022, equipped with V-MUX Hercules HC Node 1.5: E-ONE
– 2022 Commercial, Cyclone 2, Cyclone N, Typhoon N WHY IS A RECALL BEING CONDUCTED? Weldon, a division of Akron Brass Company, produces Node, an electrical multiplex module, under both a private label to a single customer as well as to multiple OEMs for installation in emergency vehicles. In the affected products, the Node contains a termination resistor installed on the node circuit board instead of the termination resistor being installed only within the electrical harness. If the vehicle network design has not accounted for this additional resistor, it may reduce the bus resistance below the defined tolerance levels and may lead to a loss of data on the CAN network. Installations with multiple Nodes are more likely to experience the condition. If the bus resistance is reduced, the CAN network connection could fail which may interrupt the transfer of data on this connection. If the CAN network connection is interrupted or fails and depending on how the vehicle’s electrical systems are designed, it may impact the operation of various electrical loads controlled by the Node, including vehicle lighting, which may increase the risk of a crash. No warning will precede the failure. Due to a bill of material error, a resistor was installed in error on the printed circuit board. The affected item is the V-MUX Hercules HC Node 1.5. WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THE PROBLEM? Vehicles subject to this recall are to be inspected and repaired by an E-ONE
certified Dealer. E-ONE
will compensate the Dealer for installing the new Nodes which are provided free of charge if it has not already been replaced during normal maintenance. The estimated time for the repair varies by the truck model, the number of Nodes in the truck and the location of the Node. The average repair time per Node will be from 1 hour to 6 hours per Node depending on the afore mentioned variables. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? If you receive this notification, please contact your E-ONE
