Disconnect all wires to battery. B. Plug shore cord into unit. C. Unplug inverter from recept. D. Use voltage tester to check power at inverter output (romex wire). If power is present, then inverter is installed incorrectly. E. Use voltage tester to check for power at the recept that the inverter is plugged into. F. If power is not at recept, then the recept romex wire and the inverter romex wire will need to be switched around to correct the installment. G. Disconnect power shore cord. Note: Use the following instructions to complete repair of inverter and call Grand Design if you have any questions regarding color of Romex wires. 1 Step #1 Make sure power shore cord is disconnected. The VIN range of affected units is: Momentum TT – 573TM2720N1216882 through 573TM2120N1217359 (non-sequential) The defect involves 110v power wired direct to the output of the solar inverter during the solar preparation install at the factory. This supply wire should have been wired to an outlet that the solar inverter plugs into. Wired to the output port creates the potential for a current overload to the circuit. As a result the potential exists for an overheated inverter and power supply line. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Direct power to the inverter through the outlet port creates the potential to overload the circuit, resulting in the potential for a fire. Description of the Cause : The 110V power supply line was incorrectly wired to the output port of the solar inverter. This supply line should have been wired to a power outlet that powers the solar inverter. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Failure can be preceded by a strong odor of melting plastic from the area where the inverter is installed. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-442 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Involved Components : Component Name 1 : WFCO Component Description : 1k Watt Solar Inverter Component Part Number : WF-5110RS Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : NR Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : • 6/7/22 – Grand Design notified of a thermal event involving a WFCO a solar inverter installed on a vehicle at Bretz RV. The root cause was determined to be incorrect 110V wiring to the inverter. This inverter was a substituted component and not the typical solar inverter used for this product line. • 6/8/22 – Grand Design pulled the scope of trailers using this substitute inverter. It was determined the concern was isolated to Momentum Travel Trailers built on line 2 between November 8, 2021, and January 24, 2022. Subsequent investigation of suspect vehicles confirmed that the substitute inverter was wired incorrectly. • 6/14/22 – Grand Design finalized the unit scope. The Product Safety Review Committee was informed, and a formal meeting was scheduled. • 6/21/22 – The Product Safety Review Committee determined a recall field action was required to address this safety concern. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : On affected vehicles, the dealer will remove the 110V power wire to the solar inverter outlet port and run this line to a 110-volt outlet. The inverter output will be wired correctly to function as an output feed. The inverter is then plugged into the outlet for power. Owner’s that have paid to have this service performed will be reimbursed by Grand Design for any expenses incurred relating to this defect. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The substitute inverter was replaced with the standard inverter in production. Inspection and verification of proper wiring has been added to the daily audit check sheet and is being monitored in production daily. Electrical installers on line have also been retrained on proper wiring of this component.
