This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Nova Bus (US) Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Nova Bus steering gear equipment manufactured from 06/01/2021 to 02/10/2022.
Nova Bus (US) Inc. have voluntarily submitted the Equipment Recall Report to NHTSA that generated the Safety Recall 22E050.
The equipment can be remedied starting from August 10th, 2022. The remedy should take approximately 3 hours to complete if installed on a vehicle. The service document CR5281E explaining the measures to be taken to remedy the affected vehicles will be published on its web site https://us.novabus.com/customer-portal/. The necessary replacement parts will be available via the Nova Bus Parts distribution network. Nova Bus (US) Inc. will assume the parts and labour costs of the replacement according to the warranty claim policies in effect.
Following the equipment recall 22E047 received from R.H. SHEPPARD CO. INC., certain affected steering gear may be assembled with fewer than the required number of recirculating balls which can lead to a fracture in the steering gear worm-shaft and loss of vehicle steering. A steering gear with fewer than the required number of recirculating balls may bind when loads are applied. In some cases, the balls may align on the same side of the gear’s worm-shaft and concentrated loads may cause the gear’s internal parts to fracture resulting in loss of vehicle steering. Loss of steering increases the likelihood of a crash. Preceding the internal fracture, the steering may be perceived as strained by the driver. No audible or visual warning is available.
You may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of a problem associated with this Safety-Related Defect. Please submit copies of all documentation supporting your claim according to the requirements specified in the “General Plan for Reimbursement of Pre-notification Remedies” provided in this notification in Annex B.

General Plan for Reimbursement of Pre-Notification Remedies
When a Nova Bus vehicle is affected by a Safety Recall and the owner/purchaser (claimant) has the Safety-Related Defect or Noncompliance remedied at their own expense prior to receiving the manufacturer notification, Nova Bus (US) Inc. will reimburse the owner/purchaser for the reasonable amount paid (i.e. the cost of parts, labor, disposal fees and taxes) that addressed the Safety-Related Defect Noncompliance as described in the notification. To qualify, repairs must have been completed no earlier than one year prior to the release of the Safety Recall (notification to NHTSA) and no later than 10 days after the last mailing of the owner notification letters.
All claims must be accompanied by accurate and complete documentation (the invoice/receipt must provide the VIN, date of repair, total amount paid and include a breakdown of the parts, labor, and other costs. Specific costs associated with this notification must be highlighted or circled on the invoice).

Nova Bus ha decidido que un defecto relacionado con la seguridad de un vehículo motorizado está presente en ciertos modelos de cajas de dirección Nova Bus fabricados 06/01/2021 y 02/10/2022.
Nova Bus, de manera voluntaria, ha registrado un reporte de campaña de retiro a la NHTSA que ha generado la campaña de retiro 22E050.
El equipamiento puede ser reparado después del 10 de Agosto 2022. La reparación tomará aproximadamente 3 horas para ser completada si fue instalada en un vehículo. El documento de servicio CR5281E explicando las medidas a tomar para reparar los vehículos afectados será publicado en el portal web https://us.novabus.com/customer-portal/. . Las piezas necesarias de reemplazo están disponibles vía la red de distribución de piezas de Nova Bus. Nova Bus (US) asumirá el costo de reparación de las piezas, incluyendo el trabajo de acuerdo a las políticas de reclamaciones vigentes.
De acuerdo con la notificación de defecto 22E047 recibida de R.H. SHEPPARD CO. INC., ciertas cajas de dirección pudieron ser ensambladas con menos de las esferas recirculatorias requeridas, hecho que pudiera ocasionar la ruptura del eje sinfín de la caja de dirección y por ende la dirección del vehículo. Una caja de dirección con menos esfera recirculatorias requeridas puede atascarse cuando una presión es aplicada. En algunos casos, las esferas pudieran alinearse en un mismo lado del tornillo eje sinfín y las cargas concentradas pudieran causar la ruptura de partes internas de la caja de dirección ocasionando la perdida de dirección del vehículo. La pérdida de dirección incrementa la posibilidad de un accidente. Antes de la ruptura interna, el conductor pudiera percibir la caja de dirección como tensionada. No hay una advertencia visual o auditiva disponible
Usted podría ser admisible a un reembolso del costo de una reparación asociada a este defecto hecha antes de la pre-notificación. Plan general de reembolso de reparaciones pre notificadas
Cuando un vehículo de Nova Bus es afectado por una campaña de llamados a revisión y que el propietario (reclamador) ha resuelto el problema a sus costos antes de recibir la notificación de la campaña de llamados a revisión, Nova Bus le reembolsara al reclamador por un monto razonable pagado por la reparación (el costo de las piezas, mano de obra, costo de disposición y las tazas) que corrigió el defecto establecido en la notificación de llamados a revisión. Para que las reparaciones sean admisibles, las reparaciones fueron completadas no más de un año antes de haber editado el llamado a revisión(notificación al gobierno) y no más de diez días después del último envió postal del envió inicial de la carta de la notificación al cliente relacionada con la campaña de llamado a revisión. Description of Remedy Program : According to Sheppard 22E047: “A remedy program is under
development. The 573 will be amended once
an inspection and remedy plan has been developed.”
Nova Bus is waiting for the Sheppard instructions to remedy the steering
gears.
Nova Bus will provide a service document to perform the remedy. All costs
associated with this corrective measure will be covered by Nova Bus for its
customers. Pre-notification remedies will be addressed using the general
reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
