An Emergency Exit Roof Hatch was missed. Basis for Determination of the Recall Population: Thomas Built Buses EFX school buses with bus capacity of 90 passenger plus driver of a known order series built in the production range listed above. Number potentially involved: __3______ Estimated percentage of involved with defect: _100%_______ Defect / Noncompliance Description For this Defect/Noncompliance: Describe the defect or noncompliance: On the affected vehicle, the emergency exit configured incorrectly based on the bus’s capacity, which may be contrary to FMVSS 217 S5.2.2.3. Describe the safety risk: A non-compliance with FVMSS 217 S5.2.2.3 may delay exiting of the bus in an emergency and increase the risk of injury Identify any warning which can precede or occur: NA If applicable, identify the manufacture of the defective or noncompliant component.: There are no defective or noncompliant components on the affected vehicles. This issue is related only to the configuration of the affected vehicles. Chronology of Defect / Noncompliance Determination Provide the chronology of events leading up to the defect decision or test data for the noncompliance decision: On June 26 2022 DTNA received a report from a dealer of a potential issue with the emergency exit configuration of dealer three of newly delivered buses. DTNA staff promptly began an investigation. DNTA staff reviewed build records to determine if any additional buses were built with the same configuration. DNTA also reviewed warranty records and field reports and found no similar issues. On July 13 2022 DTNA decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall on certain Thomas Built Buses EFX school buses. Note FL947 is completely unrelated to the issue in FL940. Identify the Remedy Describe the defect/noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacture’s plan for reimbursement. The affected buses will be modified to add an emergency exit roof hatch as required. Daimler Truck North America authorized service facilities. Daimler Truck North America shall be offering a refund for owner-paid repairs covered by this recall if the repair was performed prior to the date indicated in the reimbursement plan, which will be posted with owner’s notification letter. Owners are directed to seek reimbursement through authorized dealers.
