Currently we have located 3 of the six suspect steering gears, leaving the remaining three in use within those 182 trucks Production Dates : JUN 30, 2021 – JUN 01, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 11VG815E4EA000026 End : 1Z9TA8EAXNR530050 ✔ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Per Sheppard’s July 15, 2022, recall bulletin, Sheppard had produced several steering gears that did not have the correct number of recirculating balls. Per Sheppard’s communications with us, they have determined that there were six units shipped to OEV that they suspected might have this issue. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : The issue could result in the steering mechanism binding and in other instances the recirculating balls congregating on one side of the worm shaft resulting in a fracture which would result in complete loss of steering. Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : 7/15/22 Orange EV received notice from Sheppard of the defect 7/15/22 – 7/20/22 Orange EV had conversations with Sheppard on the extent of the problem and the required remedial action. 7/21/22 Orange EV and Sheppard had a call and finalized the number of suspect units and their corresponding serial numbers. Orange EV was also informed of an application that Orange EV could utilize to quickly determine if a unit is a suspect unit or not. 7/28/22 Orange EV completed review of all inventory and vehicles on site and discovered two suspect units still in Orange EV’s possession. 8/1/22 A 3rd steering unit found at customer’s site. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Search through deployed trucks, until we discover the 3 remaining suspect steering gears, remove steering gear and replace with new steering gear.
