Cummins supplied Engine Serial Numbers that were traced to the affected chassis VIN’s. Production Dates : JUN 02, 2022 – AUG 02, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : According to Cummins Engine Control Modules within the subject population that are affected by the defect condition may develop an internal electrical short circuit, possibly resulting in an engine stall without warning. If this occurs, the engine cannot be restarted until replacement of the ECM and, if necessary, the fuse. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : An unexpected engine stall without the ability to restart the engine may lead to an increased risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : A screw in the supplier’s selective solder fixture backed out of position, pushing an electrolytic capacitor frame into the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) during ECM production. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : This can occur without warning. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-599 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Electronic, Control Module Component Description : Engine Control Module Component Part Number : NR Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Vitesco Address : 2400 Executive Hills Blvd Auburn Hills Michigan 48326 Country : United States Chronology : On August 4, 2022, Cummins notified Shyft of recall 22E-063 and provided Engine Serial Numbers (ESNs) of the affected engines. Shyft traced the ESN’s to Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) to identify the affected motor home chassis. On August 5, 2022 a Stop Ship was put into place for chassis still in Shyft’s position. That same day, Shyft determine a defect relating to motor vehicle safety could exist in the affected motorhome chassis. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The affected motorhome chassis are still within their warranty period and would not be subject to reimbursement. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Cummins has not provided that information. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Chassis are currently being held until the remedy is applied. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : At this time, it does not appear motorhomes built on the affected chassis have been sold to retail owners. The planned owner notification date is the date to notify the affected final stage manufacturers. Also, Shyft does not have dealers for the chassis.
