WCC: 99.02.14 RATE: 1 hour DRV TAIL LIGHT ADDITION 22V649 & 2022-480 Tools needed: 1. 4 (5/8) Hole Saw ***ONLY USE THIS SIZE OF HOLE SAW*** 2. Screw Gun with proper bit 3. Wire cutters / strippers Parts List 1. 12’ 5 strand ribbon wire 2. (2) 4” round LED stop/tail/turn w/reflex flange – low profile (1228442) 3. 18” of 1/2” foam tape 4. (6) #8 1” self-tap black screws 5. 11 bell caps medium size ** DO NOT REMOVE REFLECTOR THAT IS CURRENTLY ON REAR OF UNIT** **INSTALL NEW LIGHT ABOVE REFLECTOR** How to. 1. Locate drilling location (See Picture 1 and 2) a. From the right and left flange measure in 15 (1/2)” b. From the bottom seam measure up 7(1/4)” c. Using the 4 (5/8) hole saw drill a hole at that location on the left and right sides of the rear cap. 2. Remove the 4 screws holding the bike rack plug. Remove the bike rack plug. 3. Locate and remove the ribbon wire as shown in picture 4 4. You will need to run a ribbon wire from the left and right holes drilled in step 1 to the wire bundle pulled out in step 3. 5. At the center where you pulled out the ribbon wire, remove the scotch locks and connect all the ribbon wires together with bell caps a. Red to red b. White to white c. Blue to blue d. Gray to Gray e. On the left hand side connect wires with bell caps (off door side) i. Red to red ii. White to white iii. Black on the light to the blue on the ribbon wire b. On the right hand side connect wires with bell caps (door side) i. Red to red ii. White to white iii. Black on the light to the Brown on ribbon wire 8. Install the lights into the holes using the #8 self-tap screws 9. Re-install the trailer plug using the 4 screws 10. On certain 2021 – 2022 DRV Mobile Suite Fifth Wheels the tail/stop/turn lights do not conform to the standards set forth on FMVSS 108: Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. A portion of the tail, stop and turn light sits outside of the maximum height requirement. This could cause limited of visibility of the fifth wheel and may lead to an increased risk of crash or personal injury. DRV will have an authorized dealer or repair center inspect the light heights. If a portion is found above the 72″ mark, DRV will have two 4″ round tail/stop/turn lights with reflective rings installed within the required zone. This should take no more than 1 hours to complete. This defect will be corrected at no expense to you, the owner. All Reimbursements will be covered by DRV’s general reimbursement plan. At your earliest convenience, Please contact your local dealer to set up an appointment to have this inspected and if needed corrected immediately, this service will be performed free of charge. After looking into it ABC recommended secondary testing be done. 7-11 contacted Intertek for testing. On 8/19/22 received confirmation that the lights were not in compliance. 8/22-8/24 determined scope. 8/24 safety committee meeting. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-649 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : DRV will have an authorized dealer or repair center inspect the light heights. If a portion is found above the 72″ mark, DRV will have two 4″ round tail/stop/turn lights with reflective rings installed within the required zone. This should take no more than 1.5 hours to complete. This will be done at no cost to you, the owners. All reimbursements will be covered by DRV’s generalized reimbursement plan. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The fix will have two 4″ round LED stop/Tail/Turn with reflex flange lights (Part number 1228442) installed in the bottom area of the rear cap. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Production began adding the 4″ round light with a reflective flange on 7/13/22.
