Incorrectly Routed Refrigerator LP Gas Line

In the event of a gas leak, gas can build up inside the concealed area, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary

JaycoeBay logo, Inc. (JaycoeBay logo) is recalling certain 2022-2023 White Hawk travel trailers. The refrigerator LP gas line may have been improperly routed and concealed in the underbelly of the trailer.

 

Remedy

Dealers will reroute the refrigerator LP gas line, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 21, 2022. Owners may contact JaycoeBay logo customer service at 1-800-283-8267. JaycoeBay logo’s number for this recall is 9901579.

REFRIGERATOR LP GAS LINE INSPECTION

1. Verify the LP gas line running from the door side LP manifold to the refrigerator is visible outside of the underbelly. Please follow the repair instructions if the LP gas line is not visible. Figure 1 shows the correct routing of the LP gas line.

 

REFRIGERATOR LP GAS LINE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

 

1. Begin by shutting off any gas supply coming to the manifold.

2. Remove refrigerator vent on the off door side slideout.

3. Disconnect gas line from refrigerator while using two wrenches. (Figure 2)

a. Note: It is important not to damage connection point when disconnecting.

4. Push gas line through side panel of refrigerator cabinet. (Figure 3)

 

5. Locate the wire/gas line brace underneath the slideout. (Figure 4)

6. Remove p-clamp and cut zip ties attaching the wires and gas line to the wire brace. (Figure 5)

 

7. Pull gas line back down through slideout floor where p-clamp was previously located.

8. Remove gas line from slideout wire brace.

9. Push gas line back through the I-beam of the main frame.

10. Locate LP manifold on the off door side of the unit. (Figure 6)

11. Pull refrigerator gas line back to the LP manifold.

12. Reseal hole where gas line was located with black spray foam.

13. Staying below the underbelly, run gas line back to the off door side of the unit.

14. Attach gas line using p-clamps to the cross members of the frame. (Figure 7)

15. Re-attach gas lines to slideout wire brace using zip ties, and p-clamps. (Figure 8)

 

16. Run gas line back up through slideout floor.

17. Run gas line back through refrigerator panel. (Figure 9)

18. Re-connect gas line to refrigerator fitting. (Figure 10)

 

19. Reseal all areas that were previously sealed.

20. Re-attach refrigerator vent.

JaycoeBay logo Inc. has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 2022-2023 White Hawk travel trailers.

 

Reason for this recall

The refrigerator LP gas line may have been improperly routed and concealed in the underbelly of the trailer. In the event of a gas leak, gas can build up inside the concealed area, increasing the risk of a fire.

 

Recall Remedy

The remedy consists of rerouting the refrigerator LP gas line. The remedy will be free of charge and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

 

What we need you to do

Please contact a JaycoeBay logo certified repair facility and schedule an appointment for this remedy.

 

Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.

If you had this repair completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall. Submit an email to service@jaycoeBay logo.com including your name, address, VIN, recall number, and a clear, legible receipt showing the identification of the product that was recalled.

If your dealer does not remedy this condition at no charge, please contact our Customer Service Department at 800-283-8267. If you are unable to get this safety defect remedied without charge and/or within a reasonable amount of time after contacting your dealer and JaycoeBay logo customer service, you may want to contact NHTSA. Chronology :

On August 9, 2022, production reported to the codes and standards team that we built units with the refrigerator LP Line concealed in the underbelly.

August 10, 2022, Codes and standards team emailed the JaycoeBay logo compliance team the incident with the affected units from our production records.

On August 15, 2022, this
incident was discussed at WIRC (Warranty & Incident Review Committee) and elevated to CPAC (Corrective and Preventative Action Committee).

On August 17, 2022, this incident was discussed at CPAC and elevated to SSC (Safety Steering Committee).

On August 25, 2022, SSC discussed this incident and voted to proceed with a recall. JaycoeBay logo has received no warranty claims for this situation.
