Chronology of Defect / Non‐compliance Determination

Provide the chronology of events leading up to the defect decision or test data for the non‐compliance decision:

December 20, 2021 ‐ Based upon NHTSA VOQ inquiry REV RV began an investigation on routing of level system hoses on 2020 MY Southwind models as a customer had a motor home where they found a hose unprotected (potentially leaking) and routed through the frame rail.

January 6, 2022 ‐ Warranty claim data review did not reveal any 2020 MY Southwind motor homes with the condition reported.

January 2022 ‐ Replied to VOQ inquiry. REV engineering investigating standards and requirements relating to hose routing, chaffing and heat. Engineering consulted with LipperteBay logo Component Inc. (“LCI”) the manufacture of the hoses to determine their hose testing criteria. Engineering reviewed the Southwind motor homes in production and did not find others with the same condition reported in the VOQ. They also performed field testing on motor homes to understand how usage could affect the hoses. In addition, REV RV considered the influence heat may have on the hoses as heat rating was one of the criteria defined by LCI.

February through April 2022 ‐ Engineering received a leveling hose installation procedure from LCI. They also conducted heat testing on the hoses in various stages of operation and conditions. Engineering sourced heat shielding material with specifications from LCI for further testing for potential heat protection.

May 2022‐ REV RV requested further testing by independent company to validate the hose’s performance to the SAE specifications. Conducted a widespread review of warranty data and provided analysis to engineering.

June 2022 ‐ Engineering received materials to perform chafe tests to validate corrugated auto loom performance.

July through August 2022 ‐ Engineering received independent test results which were coupled with internal testing to determine that routing of leveling hoses through the frame rail openings and/or near engine heat sources requires protection. Engineering updated prints to outline areas that need protection from heat and abrasion. They worked with Quality and Operations implemented a change in installation, routing and with work instructions on how and where to install the hose protection material.

August 2022 ‐ This Issue was escalated within the REV Group Safety Committee who decided to declare a voluntary safety recall.
