Keystone
RV Company (Keystone
) is recalling certain 2023 Dutchmen Aspen Trail, Coleman, and Kodiak travel trailers. The switch for the electric stabilizer jacks may not be waterproof from the back side of the switch, which can result in an electrical short.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the jack switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 27, 2022. Owners may contact Keystone
customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone

Dutchmen Stabilizer Jack Switch
Keystone
is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population have an electric stabilizer jack switch that is not waterproof from the back side of the switch. Under certain conditions during travel, the back side of the extend/retract switch for the electric stabilizer jacks can short out causing the jacks to extend during travel, leading to an increased risk of personal injury, and or vehicle crash.

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.
The remedy is to replace the existing stabilizer jack switches with the waterproof switches, 2 – KRV # 700834 – Switch – 12V – Mom On/Off/Mom On – SPDT – 260F – IP66 – Gasket – w/Extended Retract Print – w/Wire Harness – Black.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels. Disconnect 12VDC and 120VAC.
Step 2
Remove the existing switches on each of the two stabilizer jacks that do not have waterproof tape wrapped around the back of the stabilizer jack switch connection.
Step 3
Using the replacement stabilizer jack switches, KRV # 700834 – Switch – 12V – Mom On/Off/Mom On – SPDT – 260F – IP66 – Gasket – w/Extended Retract Print – w/Wire Harness – Black, match the wire colors using the diagram in Figure 1. Stabilizer Jack wiring to unit harness wiring – White to Yellow, Green to Green, and Brown to Blue. Any remaining harness wires should be capped off and not used.
Chronology :
8/2/2022 – Report was made to Keystone
by a dealers transport company that electric stabilizer jacks came down in transit on three separate units.
8/3/2022 – Investigation opened. All affected units with a specific control panel that was new to Dutchmen brand units were put on hold for further testing. There are no field reports and no death or injury reports.
8/11/2022 – Testing was reviewed by engineering and Sigma Switches Plus. It was determined that the switch being used was only IP 66 rated (waterproof) on the front side, the back side was open to road salt spray. Investigation opened to determine scope and range of affected units.
8/31/2022 – Investigation concluded and scope completed.

Disconnect the center wire and protect the connector with a piece of tape on the back of the switch if driving in the rain. As soon as possible, please make an appointment to have your RV serviced by your dealership. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 1 hour. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule and process your RV for this repair. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Under certain conditions during travel, the back side of the extend/retract switch for the electric stabilizer jacks can short out causing the jacks to extend during travel, leading to an increased risk of personal injury, and or vehicle crash. Description of the Cause : The switch is only waterproof from the front side and the backside is exposed on some models. by a dealers transport company that electric stabilizer jacks came down in transit on three separate units. 8/3/2022 – Investigation opened. All affected units with a specific control panel that was new to Dutchmen brand units were put on hold for further testing. There are no field reports and no death or injury reports. 8/11/2022 – Testing was reviewed by engineering and Sigma Switches Plus. It was determined that the switch being used was only IP 66 rated (waterproof) on the front side, the back side was open to road salt spray. Investigation opened to determine scope and range of affected units. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The remedy is to replace the existing jack switch (KRV# 700835) with an IP 66 water proof switch on front and back sides. Manufacturer Reimbursement Plan on file as of 10/07/2020. General reimbursement plan to be updated every two years. New vehicles are covered under warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replacement switch is an IP 66 rated water proof switch on front and back sides.
