Fuel Vapor Line Without Heat Shielding Installed

Heat exposure may cause the line to leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary

NavistareBay logo, Inc. (NavistareBay logo) is recalling certain 2023 IC CE vehicles. The fuel vapor line without the heat shield tubing may have been installed, exposing the line to heat from the exhaust system.

 

Remedy

Dealers will replace the fuel vapor line with heat shield tubing, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 20, 2023. Owners may contact NavistareBay logo’s customer service at 1-800-448-7825. NavistareBay logo’s number for this recall is 22526.

DEFECT DESCRIPTION

A fuel vapor line may have been built without the heat shield installed. Exposure to exhaust system temperatures in certain areas over time can cause the line to break down and possibly leak. A fuel vapor line that breaks down and leaks can increase the risk of a vehicle fire resulting in property damage.

 

MODELS INVOLVED

This safety recall involves certain 2023 IC Buse CE Series school bus models built 06/21/2022 thru 09/08/2022 with feature code 12DLP (ENGINE, GASOLINE).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Park vehicle on flat surface.

2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.

3. Turn ignition to Key OFF position.

4. Install wheel chocks.

NOTE: There will be more cable straps on the vehicle you are working on than what are shown in Figure 1, Item 1.

5. Remove cable straps (Figure 1, Item 1) that route and secure fuel hoses.

6. Wrap fuel line heat shield around fuel vapor hose (Figure 1, Item 2).

7. Secure shield and hoses in place with new cable straps.

8. Remove wheel chocks.

  • 10/10/2022 – NavistareBay logo Engineering initiates investigation to determine long term affects of continued heat exposure to non-shielded fuel vapor hose.
  • 11/14/2022 – NavistareBay logo Engineering concludes analysis and shares data with Compliance.
  • 11/16/2022 – NavistareBay logo finalizes the suspect population.
  • 11/18/2022 – NavistareBay logo declares a Safety Recall. As of this time, no warranty claims or field failures for this defect have occurred.
  • 12/14/2022 – NavistareBay logo Compliance documents the field inspections found all rear wheel hub nuts were properly installed or have been repaired.
