Our records indicate that some of the product, (“cooktops”), listed below were purchased by your company and may either be in your inventory or have been installed in a RV that your company sells. Dometic Corporation apologizes for the inconvenience that this places on your business and the requirement that you now have, per CFR 49, Part 573, to initiate your own recall to handle these products. Please note that as of this notice it is unlawful for you to sell a product that is installed, but not sold or is in your inventory before it has had the remedy applied. Dometic Corporation is advising you to locate ALL the following models of recreational vehicle cooktops and quarantine those that have not been installed in a RV or that are still in your inventory. Furthermore, you will need to collect model, serial number, and VIN number of ALL RV’s that have been shipped with these model cooktops (corresponding to the serial numbers listed below) installed and provide that list to Dometic Corporation as early as possible. The following models with their respective serial number ranges may be in your inventory. The remedy kit will include instructions, a replacement unit, a mandatory recall response card (to be filled out at the time of the repair), and specific requirements that an authorized service center must install the remedy free of charge to the end use customer. All remedy installations at the OEM will require that the recall response card be filled out and returned to Dometic Corporation when the remedy is completed. The recall response card is an essential requirement to protect both the OEM and Dometic Corporation in the record keeping and reporting of the recall remedy process to NHTSA. Please advise all your dealer body organizations, that as of this notice, it is unlawful for them to sell a product that is installed but not sold to an end user or is in their inventory before it has had the remedy applied to the product. We understand that you may have sold and shipped product ahead of this notice and we are willing to participate in supporting you, by distributing the same remedy kits to your end use customers, if you so choose. Whether you choose to allow us to conduct this remedy campaign on your behalf or whether you elect to conduct the campaign on your own, please provide lists of customers, the vehicle type, VIN number, and other pertinent information needed to contact these customers and for the reporting responsibilities that Dometic Corporation has to NHTSA. Additionally, see section below entitled “What you need to do.” The Problem: The user of a recreational vehicle or marine vessel may become aware of the potential safety-related defect during operation of the cooktop. The burner control valve, mated directly to the control knob via the valve stem, may leak gas. This gas will leak directly into the recessed portion of the cooktop, where the knobs and igniter are located, and may be ignited by the active burner(s). The ignition will result in a small pilot flame directly at the control knob. A)DOMETIC What Dometic Corporation Will Do: Dometic Corporation is aggressively approaching all OEM’s, Dealers, Retailers, and End Users with certified letters (for which they must sign), defining the product, models, population, and direction on action to be taken. The remedy will consist of 1) instructions to locate the cooktop serial number 2) Recall Response Card to be filled out and returned to receive the replacement unit. Again, Dometic Corporation is supplying this recall remedy at no charge. February 2, 2023 Dear Shadow Customer, We were recently notified of a potential defect with the Dometic Manufacturing Company’s Drop-In Stove Model# CE99-ZF/PI8022 that were manufactured by Suburban between August 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.We have determined that your trailer with a VIN of insert vin number here falls within the timeframe of this campaign and this model stove may be installed in your trailer. Attached you will find a copy of the Safety Recall Report that was issued to Dometic by NHTSA. As of this date Shadow Trailers, Inc. has not had any reports of any Drop-In Stove issues in general or related to this campaign. We are confident that our installation protocol and system checks meet/exceed the Manufacturers requirements with our customers safety as the top priority. AFTER REVIEWING ALL INTERNAL INFORMATION RELATED TO THIS CAMPAIGN, AND USING THE LIST OF THE 12 STOVES WITH SERIAL NUMBERS PROVIDED TO SHADOW BY DOMETIC CORPORATION, SHADOW TRAILERS INITIATED A RECALL FOR THE STOVES. SHADOW IDENTIFIED THE DEALERS AND THE RETAIL BUYERS USING OUR WARRANTY REGISTRATION PORTAL AND NOTIFIED THE SELLIN G DEALERS AND CUSTOMERS VIA MAIL, EMAIL AND TELEPHONE. SHADOW PROVIDED THIS LIST TO DOMETIC CORPORATION AND OUTLINED OUR ACTIONS. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : SHADOW OUTLINED THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACEMENT/REPAIR OF THE STOVES TO DEALERS AND CUSTOMERS PER DOMETIC AND NHTSA PROCEDURES TO INCLUDE: STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION TO FACILITATE THE REPLACEMENT/REPAIR, IDENTIFIYING THE SERIAL/ MODEL NUMBERS, CONTACT INFORMATION (PHONE AND EMAIL FOR DOMETIC) AS WELL AS OFFERING ASSISTANCE AS NEEDED. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : UNKNOWN Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : SHADOW HAD NOT INSTALLED THE STOVES IDENTIFIED IN THE CAMPAIGN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IN ANY PRODUCTION UNITS OTHER THAN THE 12 UNITS IDENTIFIED BY DOMETIC AND HAD NONE OF THE STOVES IN OUR INVENTORY AT THAT TIME OR SINCE.
