This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Newell Coach has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on Newell Model P50 coaches, with coach numbers from 1756 through 1768. As a result, Newell Coach is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.
Reason for this

There is a possibility that the House Battery disconnect switch may fail to disconnect the batteries from the coach when turned off, causing a potential for shock when performing maintenance or repair to the electrical system. The remedy is to replace the current battery disconnect switch with an approved battery disconnect switch, free of charge. You should contact your Newell service advisor to schedule an appointment at the service center in Miami, OK or to make arrangements to visit a qualified service center in the field convenient to your location. For repairs made in the field, Newell will supply the necessary parts and pay the service center or reimburse you. If you have questions concerning this recall or if you need any assistance, please contact the Newell Coach Warranty/Service Department by mail at 3900 North Main Street, Miami, OK 74354, or by phone at 1-888-363-9355. If you had appropriate repairs completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, and if you incurred any direct cost in connection with obtaining such repair, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement from Newell Coach by contacting the Newell Coach Warranty/Service Department. If you are not satisfied with Newell Coach after we have done our best to remedy this situation, you may submit a written complaint to: Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20590. House Battery Switch Upgrade
Caution: This proceedure involves working with exposed and energized electrical cables
and terminals. This should only be performed by experienced electricians.
Required Parts:
Switch NC# 314400
Switch Standoffs X 4
Label plate
1/4” x 20 3” screws X 4
1/4 flat washer X 4
1/4 nyloc nut
Optional:
Non-residue electrical insulating tape such as
TESA Cloth Electrical Tape
1. Unplug from shore power and shut off
generator
2. Switch both battery banks to Off
3. Disconnect battery cables from panel
by rotating connector shell counter
clockwise until it stops, then pull
straight out away from the coach.
4. Remove the two upper tray retaining bolts
5. Slowly and carefully pull upper battery tray to full extension. Watch battery ter-minals to ensure that they clear the stain-less panel above.
7. Carefully disconnect all cables from the first battery’s terminals. These cables and terminals will be energized so be aware of your tool clearances at all times and make sure you do not contact the opposite ter-minal, other cables, or any conductive ma-terial such as the metal door or frame.
8. Wrap remaining battery cables in elec-trically insulating non-residue tape or re-move the remaining batteries using cau-tion and continuing to note the terminal configurations for reassembly
6. Take notes or pictures of the first battery terminals that you can use to en-sure reassembly in the same configura-tion.
9. Remove two mounting bolts and un-mount battery switch.
10. Disconnect cables from battery switch taking note of which two large cables were together and which one was separate.
11. Use label plate as a template to mark and drill 4 mount holes.
12. Attach cables to replacement switch.
13. Mount switch, switch standoffs, and label plate to panel.
14. Reinstall batteries and reconnect battery cable connectors.
15. Switch on house battery switch and check for house power.
16. Switch on chassis batteries

Descriptive Information : Research indicates P50 body style coaches with VIN numbers ending with 1756 through 1768 contain a battery disconnect switch that may fail. The disconnect switch was discontinued and changed manufactures. The failures are limited to the newly manufactured Rincon HVBD4AAR battery disconnect switch. 13 coaches have been sold with this battery switch installed

1/2023 Newell found during maintenance of coach 1769 a battery disconnect switch that did not disconnect when turned off. We disassembled the switch to find the contacts were fused together. We ran load tests on additional switches and found some failed in the same manor if switched on or off during high load conditions. Newell research found that the disconnect manufacture had changed from GIGAVAC to Rincon Power mid year 2022. Newell researched purchasing records and established coach 1756 was the first coach to received the Rincon manufactured switch. Newell immediately sourced a different disconnect switch and removed and replaced all Rincon disconnect switches on coaches within production, leaving 13 coaches already out in the field to recall. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : The Rincon manufactured battery disconnect switches will be removed
and replaced with the newly sourced battery disconnect switch. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy will be performed at the Newell Coach Service Center in Oklahoma at no charge. For customers located in places where Newell Coach Service Center is inconvenient, Newell will assist the customer in locating a service center in a more convenient location, and will provide the new components with installation instructions and cover the cost of the remedy. If the customer pays a service center out of pocket for the remedy, Newell Coach will reimburse the customer for the cost of the remedy. For a customer who prefers to service his own coach, Newell will provide the new components and installation instructions to the customer.
