A detached brake pedal can cause a loss of pedal function, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Nikola Corporation (Nikola) is recalling certain 2022 TRE BEV vehicles. The shaft locking screw on the brake pedal may be missing or may not be fully threaded, which can cause the brake pedal to detach.
Remedy
Dealers will repair or replace the brake pedal units as necessary, free of charge. All vehicles were inspected and repaired by November 1, 2022. Owners may contact Nikola customer service at 1-630-808-4531. Nikola’s number for this recall is 22VDC0908.

Brake Pedal Assembly Inspection
(9/15/2022)
Step 1: Lift hood and locate supplier production date for the Brake Pedal Assembly
Step 2: Verify if vehicle is within suspect range
*NOTE: Further inspection not required if date of production is CW15 of 2022 or later
Step 3: Insert Borescope into Brake Pedal opening
A) Locate Brake Pedal Assembly on driver`s side
B) Turn on borescope and insert camera approximately 6-7 inches inside the opening of the Brake Pedal Assembly, following the RIGHT side of the pedal
NOTE: Camera should glide against pedal and may need to be manipulated in order to locate suspect screw (see slide 5 if using side view borescope)
*It is recommended to mark the borescope to assist in inserting the appropriate length
NOTE: If using a borescope with a side camera, use the button located above the screen to alternate to the side view in order to locate the screw
Step 4: Locate the suspect screw and verify the status of the Brake Pedal Assembly screw and pin
Chronology :
-On September 12, 2022, ZF North America Inc. notified Nikola of a potential issue with the brake pedal manufactured by ZF North America Inc. in the possession of Nikola.
-On September 13, 2022, With ZF, Nikola developed an inspection method.
-On September 14, 2022, all cabs at the factory were inspected. All brake pedals in the cabs were found to have its screws properly installed and fully seated.
-On September 16, 2022, Nikolaโs Vehicle Defect Committee met to discuss the issue and decided to complete the inspection of the ZF recall population before determining if a recall was necessary.
-On November 1, 2022, Nikola completed the inspection of all sold trucks. All brake pedals in the trucks were found to have its screws properly installed and fully seated.
-On November 29, 2022, Nikola informed NHTSA that a recall was not filed because 100% of the vehicles were checked without any defect.
-On February 3, 2023, NHTSA requested that Nikola file a 573 report and close out the recall with 100% completion.

-On September 12, 2022, ZF North America Inc. notified Nikola of a potential issue with the brake pedal manufactured by ZF North America Inc. in the possession of Nikola.
-On September 13, 2022, With ZF, Nikola developed an inspection method.
-On September 14, 2022, all cabs at the factory were inspected. All brake pedals in the cabs were found to have its screws properly installed and fully seated.
-On September 16, 2022, Nikolaโs Vehicle Defect Committee met to discuss the issue and decided to complete the inspection of the ZF recall population before determining if a recall was necessary.
-On November 1, 2022, Nikola completed the inspection of all sold trucks. All brake pedals in the trucks were found to have its screws properly installed and fully seated.
-On November 29, 2022, Nikola informed NHTSA that a recall was not filed because 100% of the vehicles were checked without any defect.
