Steering Shaft May Separate from Steering Column
A loss of steering control can increase the risk of a crash.

Summary
Terex Advance Mixer, Inc. (Terex) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Front Discharge Mixer Commander and Charger vehicles. Improper installation or tightening of the steering shaft may cause it to come loose from the steering column and result in a loss of steering control.
Remedy
Terex will reinstall the steering shaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2023. Owners may contact Terex customer service at 1-800-678-5961.

Repair/Inspection Instructions
1. Secure the vehicle for service.
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
3. Place truck in neutral.
4. Apply parking brake.
5. Install wheel chocks.
6. Set torque wrench to 40 lb-ft (54 Nm).
7. Visually check and ensure that the bolt is in the proper groove attaching the steering shaft to the steering column. If aligned properly with groove apply clockwise tightening rotation while securing the nut until properly torqued.
8. If improperly installed remove bolt and properly align new bolt and steering shaft with the groove in the steering column. Apply a clockwise tightening rotation while securing the nut until properly torqued.
9. Set torque wrench to 60 lb-ft (81 Nm).
10. Visually check and ensure that the bolt is in the proper groove attaching the steering shaft to the steering gear. If aligned properly with groove apply clockwise tightening rotation while securing the nut until properly torqued.
11. If improperly installed remove bolt and properly align new bolt and steering shaft with the groove on the steering gear. Apply a clockwise tightening rotation while securing the nut until properly torqued.
12. Remove the wheel chocks.
13. Release the vehicle back to service.
Chronology :
Feb. 16, 2023 – Terex Advance Mixer received a call from a customer stating they lost control of the vehicle.
Feb. 20, 2023 – Terex started an internal investigation to determine root cause of the issue experienced by the vehicle in question, and if that issue might impact a larger population of Terex Advance Mixers. personnel visited the customer location to evaluate the issue.
Mar 3, 2023 – Based on our internal investigation we determined that there could possibly be installation/torque issues associated with the steering shaft. Out of an abundance of caution we determine that a recall is necessary.
Mar 7, 2023 – Terex Advance Mixer filed a 573 Defect Report

ISSUE:
Terex Advance has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists
in certain 2022-2023 Front Discharge Mixer Commander and Charger trucks built
between October 3, 2022, and February 28, 2023. The steering shaft may have an improperly
installed/torqued steering shaft where it connects to the steering column.
This condition could cause a loss of steering control which may result in a loss of
vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

You are receiving this Notice because you have a truck that has been identified as falling within
the suspect series. As the owner, you must immediately inspect the equipment and correct if
required:

• If suspect condition is found, immediately remove from service until the instructed repair

• If suspect condition is not found or once the equipment has been repaired, continue to
follow the inspection and maintenance instructions as specified in the manuals.

Feb. 20, 2023 – Terex started an internal investigation to determine root cause of the issue experienced by the vehicle in question, and if that issue might impact a larger population of Terex Advance Mixers. personnel visited the customer location to evaluate the issue. Mar 3, 2023 – Based on our internal investigation we determined that there could possibly be installation/ torque issues associated with the steering shaft. Descriptive Information : Terex Advance Mixer received a call from a customer stating they had lost steering control. After investigation it was determined that the steering shaft had come loose from the steering column and resulted in a loss of steering.

contacted and provided inspection instructions to determine if their vehicle is impacted by this issue. If it is parts and any labor costs associated with the remedy of the condition will be reimbursed to the customer How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The components are the same. The parts just need to be properly installed. Process engineering got with the department involved and provided awareness training on the proper procedure for steering shaft installation.
