Summary
Dorel Juvenile Group (Dorel) is recalling certain Maxi-Cosi Coral XP Rear-facing Infant Seats with model number IC313. The child seat
inner carrier
is not sufficient to restrain a child without the use of the outer carrier
. As such, these child seats
fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213, “Child Restraint Systems.”
Remedy
Owners are advised to only use the inner carrier
of the Coral XP when it is attached to the outer carrier
and installed with or without the base using the vehicle belt restraint system, consistent with the existing instruction booklet and labels. Dorel will offer a refund or replace the child seat
, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 7, 2023. Owners may contact Dorel’s customer service at 1-877-657-9546 or [email protected].

On 3/9/2023 Dorel attended a video call meeting with NHTSA OVSC representatives who shared concerns about the inner carrier
of the IC313 Maxi-Cosi Coral XP Infant Car Seat
. NHTSA followed up after the call and emailed draft compliance reports for the Coral XP related to their FY2021 testing and FY2022 testing. Both draft reports indicated noncompliance’s related to the design and labeling of the Coral XP’s inner carrier
, which is considered by NHTSA to be the “child restraint system”. Coral XP’s inner carrier
cannot be installed into a vehicle without the use of the outer carrier
, which NHTSA considers to be a “supplemental device”. As such all Coral XP models fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Safety Standard 213, “Child Restraint Systems.”
