Charging Harness May Short Circuit
A defective connection in the charging harness may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary
Les Technologies Ecotuned Inc. is recalling certain 2018-2023 E85 MK3 EV conversion systems, with part number H211-209-V02-R00. The charging harness may have a defective spliced connection in the AC power line.
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Les Technologies Ecotuned Inc. customer service at 1-805-706-0618.

You are required to submit a draft owner notification letter to this office no less than five days prior to mailing it to the customers. Also, copies of all notices, bulletins, dealer notifications, and other communications that relate to this recall, including a copy of the final owner notification letter and any subsequent owner follow-up notification letter(s), are required to be submitted to this office no later than 5 days after they are originally sent (if they are sent to more than one manufacturer, distributor, dealer, or purchaser/owner).
Please be reminded that under 49 U.S.C. § 30112(a)(3), it is illegal for a manufacturer, to sell, offer for sale, import, or introduce or deliver into interstate commerce, a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that contains a safety defect once the manufacturer has notified NHTSA about that safety defect. This prohibition does not apply once the motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment has been remedied according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
As stated in 49 U.S.C. § 30118(f), submission of eight consecutive quarterly reports followed by three annual reports is required. As described in 573.7, submission of the first of eight consecutive quarterly status reports is required within one month after the close of the calendar quarter in which notification to purchasers occurs. Therefore, the first quarterly report will be due on, or before, 30 days after the close of the calendar quarter. The first of three consecutive annual status reports will be due on, or before, 1 year after the eighth quarterly report was submitted.
Chronology :
Ecotuned Technologies and Micro Bird were informed on April 6, 2023, that an electric vehicle had been damaged by fire on April 4, while charging. On April 7, a team composed of employees of both companies was sent to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
On April 13, 2023, Ecotuned informed Micro Bird that the presumed root cause was a high heat dissipation at a junction point of the AC charging harness and a safety bulletin was sent to dealers of Micro Bird EV vehicles advising them to inform their clients that until further notice, electric vehicles shall be charged using outside charging equipment only and to keep a safe distance between vehicles and with buildings during charging sessions.
On the same day, it was decided to recall the electric vehicles equipped with Ecotuned Technologies MK3 kit.
Micro Bird had not received any report of incident or claim regarding this defect before the April 6, 2023 incident.
