) is recalling certain 2023 LR Battery Electric vehicles. The coolant line in the high voltage battery
pack may not be fully seated and locked, which can result in the loss of coolant and an electrical short circuit.
Remedy
Volvo Trucks
will work with the battery manufacturer Akasol to inspect and replace the batteries, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 16, 2023. Owners may contact Mack
’s customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack
’s number for this recall is SC0442.

Description
Coolant Lines in battery pack
may not be properly assembled and could result in the loss of coolant and a short in a battery cell. With a short in the battery cell there is a risk of a battery fire and subsequent vehicle fire.
There have been no warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries reported with this issue.
Akasol will inspect all Generation 3 batteries produced by their Hazel Park, Michigan factory and installed on Mack
vehicles. If any manufacturing discrepancies are identified the batteries will be removed and replaced.

Chronology :
April 5, 2023 during product reviews of Akasol’s batteries at our manufacturing facilities and Akasol’s facilities, discrepancies related to battery assembly were detected and this information is brought to the Product Safety Working Group and a safety investigation is opened.
April 12, 2023 Product Safety Working Group meets and reviews findings from our factory and Akasol’s battery assembly operations and makes recommendation that this be raised to the product safety committee as potential product safety defect.
April 14, 2023 Product Safety Committee meets and determines a safety defect exists.
April 19, 2023 573 Report Filed with NHTSA.
There have been no warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries reported with this issue.
