In September 2021, 2″ tube was removed from the chassis’ axle hangers by mistake. In June 2022, the missing tube was discovered by manufacturing and added back to the chassis. Forest River was not aware of any dealer or customer complaints concerning this until April 2023. 2022 COLUMBUS CMF299RL 137 Production Dates : NOV 12, 2021 – AUG 23, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : If the vehicle is not pulled level, or the vehicle experiences a full jounce, there is an elevated risk the slide mounting head could contact the tire. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the slide room arm contacts the tire it may puncture the tire, which may increase the potential to lose of control of the vehicle and the potential for a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Description of the Cause : The 2″ tube that mounts between the axle hangers and the I-Beam was mistakenly removed. On March 21, 2023, Columbus inspected a vehicle of the same model and found that there wasn’t the appropriate clearance of the slideout adjustment bolt and the tire. The same day Columbus began researching the concern. On April 3, 2023, the chassis manufacturer added a riser tube. On April 17, 2023, Columbus concluded their research and concluded that other vehicles of this same model may have the same concern. The same day, Columbus notified Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) of the findings. On April 21, 2023, the Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall the affected vehicles. An authorized Forest River dealer will need to perform the remedy. The remedy will be to install a riser kit to achieve the appropriate tire clearance. During this time, it was believed that the proper clearance was maintained. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Forest River has the utmost urgency in our recalls. Forest River will send suspected VIN numbers to our third party vendor that is licensed to pull data on the current owner of the vehicles (as needed) once a formal NHTSA I.D. is provided. Forest River intends on pushing the mailing out as soon as NHTSA provides any correction(s) and an Acknowledgement Letter.
