Production Dates : JUN 06, 2022 -JUN 06, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin: 56KDLABHSN~ End: 56KDLABH9N~ [Z] Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Indian Motorcycle has determined that certain Model Year 2022 Chief Noncompliance : motorcycles may have been manufactured without a belt guard reflector and fail to comply with the requirements of FMVSS 108. FMVSS 1 : 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the motorcycle is missing the belt guard reflector, it can reduce the motorcycle’s visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : Incorrect manual closure of a quality hold allowing vehicle( s) to be shipped. Identification of Any Warning The issue is detectable by a visual observation of the motorcycle and the lack of that can Occur : a belt guard reflector. Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Belt Guard Deflector Component Description : NR Component Part Number : NR Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name: NR The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report Address: NR NR Country: NR Chronology : 23V-293 Page3 In March 2023, during a routine audit. it was identified that an automated quality hold for a missing belt guard reflector was incorrectly closed during production. In response, Indian Motorcycle began investigating. Indian Motorcycle conducted appropriate diligence to ascertain the scope of the potentially affected vehicles and the root cause for improper closure of the missing reflector quality hold. The investigation identified 5 suspect VINs outside of lndian’s control. Indian contacted the dealer in possession of one unit, who confirmed the belt guard reflector was properly installed ( vehicle therefore removed from affected population). Indian has been unable to inspect to confirm the condition of the remaining 4 VINs as they are registered with consumers. Subsequently, on April 18, 2023, Indian Motorcycle decided that the lack of belt guard reflector constitutes a non-compliance with FMVSS 108 and decided to recall the affected bikes. Indian Motorcycle has not identified any warranty claims, other field or service reports, or other information related to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Polaris will contact affected consumers to determine whether their motorcycles have the belt guard reflector installed. If any of the affected motorcycles were built without the belt guard reflector installed, Polaris will inform dealers of the reported concern and provide instructions to dealers to install the belt guard reflector at no cost to consumers. Customers who paid to replace or service their vehicle for this condition prior to the recall notification may be eligible for reimbursement per Polaris’ General Recall Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA.
