FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Vehicles have horn buttons on the steering wheel and horn does not work. Safety feature is in-operative without warning to the driver. Which increases the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : Engineering review of harness changes failed to detect the missing circuit. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : There are no warnings associated with this issue. April 17, 2023 Product Safety Working Group reviews product safety investigation results and recommends that this be brought to Product Safety Committee as a potential product safety defect. April 27, 2023 The Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists. May2, 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA There have been no warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries reported with this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The steering column harness will be modified with a jumper harness to connect the horn button to the horn. Reimbursement for the recall will be covered by Manufacturer’s Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component has the necessary circuits (wires) to enable the horn to work. Model and Model Years Affected • Certain 2024 Mack LR model vehicles manufactured March 9, 2023 through March 21, 2023. Vehicle Quantities • 5 vehicles all US Dealer Responsibilities • The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer. • Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
