Other Grand Design Transcend models were confirmed to be produced with the correct emergency exit window installed. At the time of discovery there were 232 Grand Design Transcend model 235BH, model year 2023, units produced with this concern. Production Dates : JUN 16, 2022 – NOV 30, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 573TT2620PDD05859 End : 573TT2620PDD05859 Not sequential VIN Range 2 : Begin : 573TT2622P8824532 End : 573TT2629P8825824 ✔ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The defect involves Transcend model 235BH produced between June 16, 2022, and November 30, 2022, manufactured without an emergency exit window in the main living area. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Were an emergency to occur, occupants of the vehicle would have no emergency exit option other than the entrance door from the main living area. This could lead to an increased risk of personal injury. Description of the Cause : The 2023 Grand Design Transcend model 235BH is a new floorplan. An emergency exit window for the main living area was not included in the original production bill of materials. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : The window located over the dinette table in the main living area is not an emergency exit window. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-364 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Emergency Exit Window Component Description : WINDOW 48 X 29 8800 PS/FE G20 TP BK EXIT WINDOW Component Part Number : V000358783 p/n 580504 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : NR Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : May 10, 2023 – Grand Design discovered during routine inspection, the Transcend 235BH was not equipped with an emergency exit window in the main living area. May 11, 2023 – Grand Design determined the scope of units affected by this error. The scope was determined by the dimension of the emergency exit window being exclusive to this floorplan. Because of this, we were able to determine clear start and stop dates in production. An error in the bill of material was determined to be the root cause. May 22, 2023 – the Grand Design Product Safety Committee convened to review the concern. Based on the information provided and potential safety risk, the committee initiated a recall action. Grand Design is not aware of any incidents or injuries associated with this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : On affected vehicles, the standard window will be replaced with a safety approved, emergency exit window. Grand Design dealers have been notified of this recall and have the required repair instructions available. Repair is estimated to take no more than 1 hour. There will be no charge for this service. Owners that have paid to have this service performed will be reimbursed by Grand Design for any expenses incurred relating to the defect. How Remedy Component Differs The remedy component is an emergency exit window. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The recall condition was corrected by updating the bill of materials to reflect the needs for an emergency exit window in the main living area of the unit. Production managers were updated of the error and correction and the correct emergency exit window was utilized with the next production run of 2023 Transcend 235BH model units. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by First Class mail that their vehicle is affected by this recall. In additional, we will post recall information electronically for consumer access. Dealers will be notified of the recall action (by First Class mail & electronically) and will be supplied with repair information and vehicle identification information.
