Production Dates : APR 18, 2022 – MAY 25, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The U-bolt hardware securing the leaf springs to the axle assembly were loosened during the trailer assembly process. The nuts on the U-bolts might not have been properly retorqued after the axle assembly was installed on the finished trailer frame. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the nuts loosen and the U-bolt detaches from the axle and suspension, a loss of trailer control could result in serious injury or death. Description of the Cause : NR Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : A daily inspection could detect a loose nut. Address : 2106 S Riverside Rd Saint Joseph Missouri 64507-2535 Country : United States Chronology : On May 23, 2023, Altec received a report from a customer that a U-bolt was missing on a trailer and that another U-bolt was not torqued properly. Altec inspected all units in process and found some trailers with incorrect torque on the axle U-bolt. The customer also found additional units with loose hardware. On June 2, 2023, Altec determined that a field campaign was required. There have been no other warranty claims or field reports identified. There have been no accidents, injuries or deaths related to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The U-bolt nuts’ torque will be checked and torqued to 55 ft-lbs when needed. The recall remedy will be completed free of charge when presented for repair. The Altec Warranty Policy covers the recall remedy, including cases requiring reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a prenotification remedy of the problem associated with this recall. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy will confirm the manufacturer’s specified torque. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Altec updated the installation process to maintain the nuts’ torque as received from the axle supplier. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Altec will issue CSN 3086 to the owners of the affected units. Altec does not have a dealer network and issues letters to owners only.
