FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the fuel tank mounting straps are not properly secured, the fuel tank could separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : An Autocar manufacturing error. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : The fuel tank may be loose and show indications of movement. May 1 through May 17, 2023, Investigation continued, the installation instructions and tooling used during assembly were updated. May 30, 2023, the assembly process was audited, and the assembly error was determined. June 1, 2023, through June 12, 2023, Autocar personnel were retrained, all in-house units were quarantined and checked or reworked and a clean point established for production. June 15, 2023, all relevant information was presented to Autocar management team and out of an abundance of caution Autocar decided to perform a voluntary safety recall for all affected units. We have no known complaints or claims. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-442 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Autocar will voluntarily initiate an owner notification and recall of all affected vehicles. Autocar will distribute to owners of affected vehicles an Owner Notification Letter, which will describe the defect and provide instructions for scheduling the inspection/repair of the vehicle at no cost to the vehicle’s owner. The owner letter will instruct vehicle owners who have paid to have this condition remedied prior to this campaign to seek reimbursement pursuant to Autocar’s General Reimbursement Plan, on file with the agency pursuant to 49 C.F.R. 573.6(c)(8)(i) and 49 C.F.R 573.13 How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The fuel tank straps will be inspected, properly secured or replaced at no charge to the owner. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : 6/1/2023 through 6/12/2023 A stop ship was initiated, all in-house units were quarantined and corrected. Autocar personnel were retrained, and a clean point established for production.
