The concerned vehicles are certain MY2023 to MY2024 Prevost H3-45 vehicles manufactured during the indicated production dates. The recalled products are limited to these specific vehicles since they were the only ones equipped with the potentially defective turn signal system. A total of 1 MY2023 Prevost H3-45 and 48 MY2024 Prevost H3-45 vehicles are affected by the recall. The concerned vehicles are certain MY2022 to MY2024 Prevost H3-45 VIP vehicles manufactured during the indicated production dates. The recalled products are limited to these specific vehicles since they were the only ones equipped with the potentially defective turn signal system. A total of 5 MY2022 Prevost H3-45 VIP, 38 MY2023 Prevost H3-45 VIP, and 1 MY2024 Prevost H3-45 VIP vehicles are affected by the recall. Production Dates : JUL 15, 2021 – APR 24, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : On the concerned vehicles, the right front turn signal lamp could fail when the turn signal or hazard warning lights are activated. Consequently, the concerned vehicles do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment”, sections S6.1.5.1 and S7.1.1. FMVSS 1 : 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : An inoperative front turn signal cannot inform other road users that the vehicle will be completing a turn, while inoperative hazard warning lights reduce the vehicle’s visibility to other drivers, both increasing the risk of a crash. Prevost has not received any reports of death or injury associated with this defect. Therefore, we consider this as a proactive measure to protect the public from the potential risk associated with this defect. Description of the Cause : The defect results from an electrical design issue. Under certain conditions, the current drawn by the right front turn signal lamp could exceed the electronic control unit output current limit, causing the overcurrent protection to activate and the turn signal lamp to fail. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : There is no warning with this issue. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-474 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Right Handlamp Component Description : Right Handlamp Component Part Number : 930027 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : NR Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : 2023-05-10 One field report involving one vehicle was received. The field report indicated that the right front turn signal lamp malfunctioned. 2023-05-19 Internal Prevost investigation was opened to identify the root cause and to determine if the issue is potentially safety related or a non-compliance. Prevost considered the information included in the field report received on May 10, 2023, when evaluating the existence of a potential non-compliance. 2023-06-14 Case was presented on Volvo Product Safety Evaluation Committee (PSEC) to evaluate if there is a potential non-compliance issue. Decision made to raise the potential non-compliance issue to Volvo Product Safety Committee (PSC) for review and determination. 2023-06-19 Internal campaign was launched to solve the issue on all vehicles in production before being delivered. 2023-07-06 Case was presented to Volvo Product Safety Committee (PSC). It was concluded that there was a non-compliance issue and that a recall is needed. 2023-07-11 Noncompliance Information Report submitted to authorities. No warranty claims related to this issue. No other field reports, incidents, accidents, injury, or fatality were reported. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-474 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Prevost will install enhanced headlight wiring that comprises additional resistors on all concerned vehicles. Letters will be sent to customers to inform them on how to proceed. Prevost will execute this correction free of charge (parts and labor) for the customers. In case a customer has already inspected and corrected this defect before the safety recall has been launched, this customer will be reimbursed according to Prevost reimbursement plan. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : After the remedy, all concerned vehicles will be equipped with enhanced headlight wiring that comprises additional resistors. The recalled headlight wiring does not include additional resistors. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The recall condition was corrected in production on June 19, 2023, when an internal campaign was launched to install enhanced headlight wiring on all concerned vehicles before being delivered to customers.
