Production Dates : NOV 01, 2022 – MAY 12, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Certain power steering hoses manufactured by a certain manufacturer may have been assembled with improper fitting potentially causing an insufficient crimp/retaining force on the hose. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Under certain conditions, an insufficient crimp/retaining force on the hose may lead to a hose separation which may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist which may increase the risk of a vehicle crash, especially at medium speed in an urban environment. Nova Bus has not received any, property damage claim, and neither notice or claim of injury or death associated with this defect. Therefore, we consider this as a proactive measure to protect the public from the potential safety risk associated with this defect. Description of the Cause : The hose assembly manufacturer sourced fittings from a different tier-2 supplier and they were improper. Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Hose Component Description : Power steering hose assembly Component Part Number : N95740-37, N95740-53 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Connectall Ltd Address : 1955 Dagenais Boulevard west Laval Foreign States H7L 5V1 Country : Canada Chronology : 2023-04-13: A power steering hose failure is reported from a customer to Nova Bus. 2023-06-05: 2 additional power steering hose failures are reported from the same customer. A field report is created. 2023-06-15: Nova Bus Product Safety Working Group is informed, investigation opened. 2023-06-29: Analysis of the new information vs the 23V054 Safety Recall about power steering hose separation is completed. Nova Bus Product Safety Working Group decides to raise this new situation to the Nova Bus Product Safety Committee. 2023-07-05: Nova Bus Product Safety Committee determines a Safety-Related Defect exits. 2023-07-12: The affected vehicle population in service and at the plants is confirmed. 2023-07-12: Nova Bus submits a vehicle recall report to NHTSA. Nova Bus has not received any property damage claim, and neither notice or claim of injury or death associated with this defect. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-481 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Nova Bus will provide a service document to inspect and replace the defective power steering hoses. All costs associated with this corrective measure will be covered by Nova Bus. Pre-notification remedies will be addressed using the Nova Bus general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The certified replacement power steering hoses are using the proper fittings. A distinguishable feature of the defective hose is a blue ring on the fitting. Illustration of this will be available in the service document provide to inspect and replace the defective power steering hoses. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : From 2023-07-05, the delivery stop ensured that no vehicle was delivered with defective power steering hoses.
