FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : In the event of a crash the passenger seat pedestal could buckle resulting in an increased risk of injury to the occupant Description of the Cause : Robotic weld process error not detected at supplier prior to delivery/ installation. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : There are no warnings associated with this issue. Battleground Avenue Kings Mountain North Carolina 28086 Country : United States Chronology : June 12, 2023 Mack Manufacturing and Purchasing reports to Product Safety Working group discovery of LR Cabs manufactured missing a secondary welding operation performed during cab assembly at our supplier. A formal investigation is opened. July 10 , 2023 Product Safety Working Group reviews product safety investigation results and recommends that this be brought to Product Safety Committee as a potential product safety defect. July 19, 2023 The Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists. July 24, 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA There have been no warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries reported with this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Passenger seat pedestal reinforcement inspected for proper quantity of welds. Pedestals without proper # of welds to be repaired by completion of required welds. Reimbursement for the recall will be covered by Manufacturer’s Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component has the necessary welds to ensure the pedestal strength. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Mack Manufacturing blocks all LR trucks at our assembly plant under an internal campaign May 26, 2023 to inspect and repair any cabs which may have the missed welding operation. Model and Model Years Affected • Certain 2024 Mack LR model vehicles manufactured May 2, 2023 through May 19, 2023. Vehicle Quantities • 19 (all US) Dealer Responsibilities • The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer. • Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
