The correction was made in production on 7/24/2023. The corrected SmartPlug 30Amp inlets will have aluminum D-ring connectors. The aluminum D-ring connectors are silver colored, while the defective manganese bronze connectors are bronze colored. Description of the Cause : The manganese bronze D-rings are not able to withstand the recommended torque value of 30 in. lbs. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : A burning smell may be present. Airstream began investigation. 7/20/2023 – Airstream contacted SmartPlug with their findings regarding the failed D-rings. 7/23/2023 SmartPlug notified Airstream Via E-mail they had seen the same failures that we had seen on the line and had been able to duplicate it. 7/24/2023 – Airstream declared a stop ship for all units using the SmartPlug 30Amp inlet. 7/25/2023 – The Airstream Safety Committee convened and determined in was necessary to submit a 573 to begin the recall process. To date, Airstream is not aware of any accidents, or injuries caused by this safety defect. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-519 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Airstream will instruct the dealerships to inspect the SmartPlug 30Amp inlets. If the 30 Amp inlet has aluminum D-rings, no further action in needed. If the 30 Amp inlet has manganese bronze D-rings the dealership will be required to replace the 30Amp inlets with new SmartPlug 30Amp inlets with aluminum D-rings. This will be completed at no cost to the retail owner. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The corrected SmartPlug 30Amp inlets will have aluminum D-ring connectors. The aluminum D-ring connectors are silver colored, while the defective manganese bronze connectors are bronze colored. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Production began manufacturing with the corrected SmartPlug 30Amp Inlet on 7/24/2023.
