The population was determined based on the list of Engine Serial Numbers provided by Cummins as being involved in their safety recall campaign 23E055, C2717. Tiffin Motorhomes identified 3, 2023 Phaetons built on a PowerGlide Chassis and sold to dealers that contain an engine involved in this recall. Production Dates : APR 28, 2023 – JUL 17, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 5VBPA17A6PA123295 End : 5VBPA57A7PA123328 ✔ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Cummins states the remote fuel filter hoses installed on some of the subject engines may have been damaged during engine production, possibly resulting in a fuel hose becoming disconnected or leaking fuel. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A fuel hose that becomes disconnected will result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of a fire. Description of the Cause : Cummins states that during production of certain engines within the recall population, the fuel hoses may have snagged on the pallet on the assembly line, causing damage to the hoses. The damage may have gone unnoticed. Identification of Any Warning Persons operating in or around the vehicle may see smoke or other visible signs of a fuel leak. Involved Components : Component Name 1 : L9 engine Component Description : Diesel Engine Component Part Number : D563027BX03 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Cummins Inc Address : Box 3005 Columbus Indiana 47202-3005 Country : United States Chronology : 7/24/2023 Tiffin Motorhomes was notified by an email from Cummins, Inc that a defect existed in a certain population of engines that they had manufactured between 11/22/2022 and 02/28/2023. Tiffin Motorhomes uses these certain L9 engines to build the PowerGlide Chassis. Based on the list sent by Cummins, Tiffin Motorhomes determined that 3 Phaeton motorhomes had been built on a PowerGlide Chassis that contain engines involved in this safety recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Cummins will replace the two subject fuel hoses with hoses having improved connector crimps. Cummins requested that it be exempt from providing notification of a reimbursement plan. Any pre-notification product failure would have been corrected under the manufacturer’s limited warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Cummins states the remedy component has an improved crimp and different date codes. Remedy hoses will have a date code of 230310 (YYMMDD format) and later. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Cummins states the notification and remedy schedule is still being developed. Cummins expects to notify owners no later than 9/15/2023, and Tiffin Motorhomes will follow their notification schedule.
