Summary
Shyft Group is recalling certain 2023 Utilimaster Upfit vehicles. The battery cable connections for the electrical harness may be connected incorrectly, causing the circuit protection on the cables to be ineffective.
Remedy
Service centers will install the cables and wires correctly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in August 2023. Owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-237-7806. Shyft Group’s number for this recall is 23-02.

Chronology :
On July 21, 2023, the issue of incorrect wiring for the MDD charger was raised to Product Safety and Compliance and an investigation ensued. The potential safety impacts were not clear at the time of the initial notice.
On 7/25, the team had assessed the risk and identified the affected population of vehicles subject to this matter.
On 7/27 Shyft determined that a safety defect could exist in the affected vehicles.
On 8/1 Shyft confirmed the date of upfits for those vehicles.
