, Inc. (Mack
) is recalling certain 2015-2023 GU and GR vehicles. The turn signals may be positioned incorrectly, reducing their visibility. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will add additional turn signal lighting, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 17, 2023. Owners may contact Mack

Description
Vehicles are non-compliant with the updates to FMVSS108, 6.4.3. The turn signal visibility does not meet the 45 degree inboard and 15 degree downward angle which increases the risk of an accident.
There have been no claims or reports of accidents related to the existence of this noncompliance.
Additional front lighting will be added to comply with to FMVSS108, 6.4.3, turn signal visibility.

Dealer Responsibilities
- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
Notification Release Schedule
- Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal September 1, 2023.
- Owner notification letters will be released on or before October 17, 2023.
- Repair Instruction will be released once they are available.
Chronology :
August 3, 2021, during a new project, questions were raised relative to some current hood designs and lighting compliance. September 20, 2021 and investigation was opened.
October 14, 2022 findings of the engineering evaluation and testing was provided to Product Safety Working Group.
October 19, 2022 Product Safety Working Group meets finds that this is a potential non-compliance and recommends that this be raised to the Product Safety Committee and that a request of a petition for inconsequential to safety be filed.
October 27, 2022 Product Safety Committee meets and makes the decision that a petition for in-consequential noncompliance will be filled.
November 23, 2022 a petition was submitted relative to this issue.
August 18, 2023 feedback regarding this petition is received by Mack
.
August 25, 2023 Product Safety Committee meets and decides to recall effected vehicle.
