Interference between the deck tilt latch and the tie-down straps can cause a pinch point, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary
Interstate Group LLC (Interstate) is recalling certain 2022-2023 ITLT716SA2 trailers. The steel tie-down flat straps could interfere with the operation of the trailer deck tilt latch when the trailer load is unevenly distributed.
Remedy
Dealers will remove the steel tie-down flat straps and add a handle stop, free of charge. Owner notification letters were September 6, 2023. Owners may contact Interstate customer service at 1-877-850-7587.

Dear 2023 Interstate Tilt Trailer, Model ITLT716SA2 Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
What is the Concern?
Interstate Group, LLC dba TrailersPlus has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in our certain 2022-2023 Model ITLT716SA2 7 x 16 Single Axle Tilt 7k trailers.
The 2” steel flat strap tie off point that can interfere with the safe operation of the trailer deck tilt latch. The deck can spring up when the operator opens the gate latch causing a potential pinch point that can cause injury to the operator. An example of the subject issue is shown below:
To reduce the chance the condition will occur before the issue is remedied, the operator should:
- Ensure weight is evenly distributed on the moveable portion of the trailer prior to releasing the latching mechanism; and
- Keep hands, fingers, and other objects well away from the flat strap tie off point when releasing the latching mechanism.
What Will TrailersPlus do?
We will remove the tie down flat straps from the front stake pockets of the tilt deck to ensure that it does not interfere with the operation of the deck latch and add a handle stop. The completed repair will look as follows:
