An additional 57 trailers are located on our retail lots and will not be sold until this issue is corrected. On Friday, August 25, 2023, a customer reported an injury to her finger that resulted from her finger becoming trapped between a latch and tie down point on our model ITLT716SA2 tilt deck trailer. While this injury should not occur when the trailer is properly loaded, in an abundance of caution, we intend to issue a safety recall to retrofit the tie down points on the subject trailers to eliminate the potential pinch point at the latching mechanism. This is the only model of trailer that has the subject configuration of latch and tie down points, and no other similar issues have been reported regarding this type of trailer. Production Dates : JAN 01, 2022 – AUG 25, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The ITLT716SA2 trailer was built with a 2” steel flat strap tie off point that can interfere with the safe operation of the trailer deck tilt latch when the trailer load is not evenly distributed. In certain load situations with rear weight, the deck can spring up when the operator opens the gate latch causing a potential pinch point that can cause injury to the operator. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-603 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of the Safety Risk : When the trailer deck tilt latch is unlatched when the trailer’s load is unbalanced, leading to rear weight, a pinch point can occur. Description of the Cause : When a customer fails to property balance the load on the tilt deck by allowing too much rear weight, the trailer deck tilt tach can spring up when the latch is released. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The repair will include removing the tie down flat straps from the front stake pockets of the tilt deck to ensure that it does not interfere with the operation of the deck latch and adding a handle stop. The completed repair will take approximately 30 minutes.
