) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Kenworth
T280, T380, T480, Peterbilt
536, 537, and 548 trucks. The remote Stage 2 fuel filter hoses may have been damaged during production, allowing the hoses to leak or disconnect.
Remedy
Dealers will replace both hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 4, 2023. Owners may contact Kenworth

notified Safety and Compliance that a NHTSA recall (ID 23E-055) was filed for a remote fuel filter hose damaged in some L9
/PX-9 engines built from 11/22/2022 to 2/28/2023. Investigation opened.
Cummins
provided the list of engine serial number (ESN) affected to associate with their corresponding VIN and customer information. A total of 1,005 affected vehicles.
08-01-23: PACCAR
found 1,804 trucks built in the same time frame that were not included in the list provided by Cummins
and asked Cummins
to clarify whether any should be included in the suspect population.
08-09-23: Cummins
reviewed the 1,804 trucks found by PACCAR
and found that 398 of those engines were built prior to switching to the suspect fuel hose on 11/23/2022, 566 were built after switching to the improved hose and 840 were built with the prior hydraulic hose (not suspect hose) under deviation. None of these trucks should be added to the suspect population.
08-15-23: Eight domestic trucks from Mexico were identified in the affected population. Kenworth
Mexico was notified to coordinate the corresponding repair with Cummins
.
08-25-23: Investigation summarized for Safety Committee review and affected population firmed.
08-29-23: Safety committee meeting held. Safety Committee concurs with Cummins
that a safety related defect exists and that the affected population shall be recalled.

Description of the Cause : During production of certain engines within the recall population, the fuel hoses may have snagged on the pallet on the assembly line, causing damage to the hoses. The damage may have gone unnoticed. The root cause was identified as a poor quality crimp on the fuel hose. Owners who incurred costs to obtain a remedy for the problem addressed by the recall in advance of receiving notification may seek reimbursement through the process outlined in the general reimbursement plan on file. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component has an improved crimp and different date codes. Remedy hoses will have a date code of 230310 (YYMMDD format) and later. engine(s) listed in the enclosed engine table. WHY IS A RECALL BEING CONDUCTED? The remote fuel filter hoses installed on some of the subject engines may have been damaged during engine production, possibly resulting in a fuel hose that develops leaks or becomes disconnected. A fuel hose that becomes disconnected will result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of a fire. WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THE PROBLEM? Cummins
has released field Safety Campaign #C2717 “L9
Remote Mount Stage 2 Fuel Hose Safety Campaign” to correct this condition by replacing the two subject fuel hoses with hoses having improved connector crimps. Repair parts are currently available at Cummins
Distributors and authorized Warranty Dealers. The repair will be completed free of charge (parts and labor) and most applications will require approximately 1 hour to complete. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? Contact the nearest Cummins
Distributor or authorized Warranty Dealer to arrange to have this campaign performed on your engine. The distributor or dealer will work with you to schedule the best date to complete this repair. In the meantime, however, Cummins
