Winnebago
Industries, Inc. (Winnebago
) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Era, View and Navion recreational vehicles. The retractable awning may extend unintentionally during transit.
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 15, 2023. Owners may contact Winnebago
customer service at 1-641-585-6936 or 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago
’s number for this recall is 179. This recall supersedes and expands NHTSA recall 22V-695.

Chronology :
In April 2023, Winnebago
became aware of unintentional awning deployments occurring on a vehicles that had previously received the remedy for 22V-695. In addition, in early May of 2023, a customer complaint was identified on social media which was shortly thereafter verified with the help of NHTSA ODI as the customer also submitted a complaint to NHTSA. As a result of becoming aware of these incidents, Winnebago
opened an investigation in to post remedy unintentional awning deployments.
Subsequently, Winnebago
, with the help of the awning supplier (Carefree of Colorado), investigated several post remedy incidents to verify the condition. The results of these technical investigations and an associated data analysis were completed in early October. The Product Safety Committee met on 10/9/2023 to review the results of the investigation and determined that the issue presented an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety requiring a safety recall.

is aware of 13 post remedy incidents, 3 of which were also NHTSA VOQs. Winnebago
was first aware of a post remedy incident on or about April 2023.
