FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Both the 18” Brabus rim and the alloy rim could crack or fail catastrophically, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle operators, passengers as well as others on the road. Description of the Cause : 18” Brabus rim and 16” alloy rim not rated to carry the load for the rear axle of the Mercedes Super Single Chassis. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : No known warning. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-712 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Involved Components : Component Name 1 : NR Component Description : NR Component Part Number : NR Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Brabus Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : Service bulletins were issued in March 2022 and April 2022 for a wheel spacer not approved by Mercedes. In May of 2023, we were notified of a Super Single Chassis that had a cracked alloy wheel on the rear axle. Once made aware of the issue, we advised the servicer that the coach would need to be reverted back to the OEM steel wheels, which was completed. In July of 2023, we were notified of failed 18” Brabus wheel. We informed the servicer to revert the coach back to the OEM steel wheels. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Remove wheel upgrades, and replace with OEM Steel wheels as well as removing wheel. Midwest will reimburse customers for the new wheels. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The recalled 18” Brabus rim and 16” Mercedes OEM alloy wheel are rated below GAWR. The remedy is reverting the Super Single Chassis to OEM specifications. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Super Single Chassis built after the initial instance of the failure were reverted back to OEM specifications and the non-compliant wheels have not been used on Mercedes Super Single chassis since.
