Production Dates : APR 26, 2017 – MAR 10, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : An additional spacer was included in the joint connecting the seat structure to the seatbelt tether and buckle on certain seats. This spacer results in an increased moment arm on the seat structure, which increases the load on the joint, and failed internal testing. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A failed joint connecting the seat structure, seatbelt tether and buckle may allow the seatbelt to slip when fully loaded by the weight of the seat occupant during a severe collision, which may increase the risk of injury. Description of the Cause : While reviewing potential options to mitigate a seat cushion wear concern, an engineer identified other configurations which utilized a spacer. This spacer was added to the assembly of certain seat configurations without first verifying whether there would be an effect on joint integrity. The team suspected this configuration had not been validated via a seat pull test. Investigation opened. 03-23-23: Materials ordered for testing. 06-19-23: Materials arrived for testing. 08-09-23: Testing complete. Certain configurations did not pass, with a cracked weld observed on the seat. 08-16-23: Seat supplier evaluated welds, and determined they are consistent with design intent. 10-13-23: Investigation summarized for Safety Committee review. 10-19-23: Safety Committee meeting held. The Safety Committee concurs that a safety related defect exists and that the affected population shall be recalled. As of 10/19/2023, PACCAR received zero (0) warranty claims and zero (0) reports about trucks in the field that may be related. No reports of deaths or injuries have been received. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Affected vehicle owners will be notified and dealers will inspect and remove the spacer from the ICP bar joint, replace the bolt with the proper length and re-torque free of charge. Owners who incurred costs to obtain a remedy for the problem addressed by the recall in advance of receiving notification may seek reimbursement through the process outlined in the general reimbursement plan on file. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Remedied assemblies will not include the spacer. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The additional spacer was no longer included in the seat assembly. This was completed for all vehicles as of March 11, 2023.
