10/24/2023 Dear OEM This notification is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Trans/Air Manufacturing has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in a limited number of Trans/Air Dual Compressor Mounts. The mounts in question were installed on Starcraft Ford F650 commercial buses, where in isolated instances, when equipped with an optional stabilizer / sway bar, the compressors may contact the bar. This could result in a catastrophic failure of the compressor mount which potentially could result in any number of adverse safety conditions including loss of mode of power, which in turn could affect steering. Trans/Air will be instituting a Mandatory Product Improvement for this product. According to our records, these mount kits were installed as original equipment on vehicles manufactured at your facility, and you agree that they contain a safety defect, your company must notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) within 5 business days and conduct a safety recall of those vehicles. To help you comply, should you decide to issue a safety recall of the vehicles that contain an affected mount, we have attached list of affected VINs, samples of a dealer service bulletin and a sample letter to dealers, which should facilitate your notification to dealers and owners of the recall and the required repairs and service procedures.
